It shatters after you stab someone, making it extra nasty?

That glass blade is pretty cool, but I agree its a ugly handle. Do you know if the blade is melted into the shape or is it recycled glass or something that is grinded down into shape?
It reminds me of a crimi movie where the murder killed people by stabbing them in the ear with a stone blade and breaking it off by the handle so the blade was kept in them
