Some photos from the new location of home and office. Some friends on another forum wanted to see pics from the new homestead, so I thought I'd share them here as well.

From the dirt road we now live on the day I got here when I cam up to work on the house.

The Lady that lived here for the last thirty years was getting on in years and moved in with her son. I am going to remove part of her ramp, but leave part of it and add a section of deck on to it. I like it, it reminds me of a pier.

The front steps, the well, and the LP gas tank. Also the new electrical service which was part of the work that had to be done, along with repairing the electric system in the gas furnace that was damaged by the faulty electrical service.

View from the deck

The work shop (formerly the garage) and the new gate I put in

Life living on a dirt road in rural farm country

The back side of the house, where I will be adding an addition with another bedroom, and a mud room among other things.

There are grape vines, two apple trees, and two pear trees...which I must learn a good deal about in order to do some maintenance on as they have been let go for a while now. The little one loves just being able to pick and eat an apple.

There is a stream with trout in it that crosses the land

There are new wild plants for me to study here as well, like the wild cucumber that I am told is inedible but was used by native americans to make medicines which has my interest.

Oh, and yes the knife in these photos is the new Recluse :) I have been cleaning up my rifles and shotguns, soon I will be back to hunting again, yaaaaaay. I love how it matches the other two Fiddlebacks I use the most, but has a bit more belly for skinning.

Lots of wildlife here. My daughter loves watching the rabbits and deer, and playing with the frogs

I have noticed what seems to be a healthy honey bee population, not sure if these are feral or if they belong to someone in the area, but the garden should do well next year.

There are lots of Amish stores, fresh vegetable stands, and orchards in the area.

The kitchen is bigger, has more cabinets, and more counter space than I had before. I LOVE that! The new kitchen was christened with a huge pot of fresh vegetable soup two days after I first got here and found a large stock pot at a local store, and the a pan of checken and dressing a few days later.

Last night I was working using the lap top sitting at the dining table in front of the ope windows. I was much enjoying the breeze and the more seasonal weather. After days of 94F/34C it felt great to me. As for the missus, I think it sent her system into shock and she grabbed a blanket :)

Well, that's a look around at things here. More to come as projects I have planned progress. There is much to do here and much that I need to learn...as well as much I need to purchase like a new pressure cooker and lots of canning jars for jams and preserves. I am afraid I am getting such a late start on it this year that I will miss much of it, but will study a lot over the winter.

Good for you Mist. Looks like you found a nice place in the country with good neighbors! Thank you for sharing.

Looks great. Too cold for grapes here, but we have apples and plums.

Hunting looks good, now you just need a suppressor :D

A fine home, Mist. Reminds me of my grandmothers place. She had pear and apple trees along with a grape vine as well. I remember she had a professional guy come in and "pare" the pear trees and the apple trees as there were too many smaller branches that were sucking nutrience that the fruit was getting bad. The only thing I remember was that they didn't look like trees anymore when he was done. He cut a full 70% off the trees. But next year it was the best fruit they ever had.

Thanks Mark. I am soooo glad to be away from the city, I love it out here. I just hope the wife can deal with the winter :) So far the neighbors and we get along fine. There only a couple within easy walking distance.

Beautiful Pics, Mist!! Thanks much for sharing!!

Thanks Philip, glad you enjoyed them!

I was just thinking the same thing last night :)

The apple and pear trees, as well as the grapes, have definitely gotten out of hand. One large trunk on one of the apple trees has already been broken by the weight. They definitely need to be pruned back some for next year. I have a LOT of research to do lol

Thanks for sharing! Do you guys have bears there or other preditors (cougars etc.) ??

Wow! Outstanding pictures mistwalker. Congratulations on your new home. I really enjoy your photos.

Looks like you will have plenty of peace and quiet living there. Nice big spaces for the little one to play and explore. I too live on a gravel road, its not that bad if your road commission grades and compacts the road often. Enjoy!

Great pics, looks like a very nice area to live.

Hate to get personal but do someone a favor and throw out those cigarettes. They have killed over 3/4 of my family and I hate seeing others go through the pain it has caused me loosing my family to something so stupid.

Looks like that place will keep you busy or a while. Nice piece of land. Trout creek on the property, I'm jealous.
Congrats Mist.

Congratulations on the great new place!

The pictures of your daughter picking apples and checking out the frog made me smile! Very cute!

Your pictures of the fresh produce and your awesome looking vegetable soup and bread have made me VERY hungry for some homemade veggie soup!

The weather here today is almost good hot soup weather -

Thanks for the pictures , and I hope you can make it to the JK Gathering!

best

Congrats on the new home and land Mist. Looks like lots of fun projects. You could start doing some taxidermy in the new shop once you get your suppressor. ;)

Great pics!

Looks like an awesome piece of property! A lot of amish here in WI too. I'm certainly jealous of the trout stream and have my eyes open for some property around here with one. Sometimes they pop ip but never with a home, guess I'll jave to learn to build.
What kind of apples?

That's really cool, Congrats! :) Good luck with your projects. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Great Pictures, I can tell your cute little daughter is loving the new place with all of the fresh food and wildlife.
I grew up in a similar setting of fruit trees and animals. I think it helps give kids a respect and appreciation of nature.

Thanks for sharing.
