For me, time does not heal these wounds. I'll sing a song sitting by the fire for you. It's the smoke in my eyes.

“You can shed tears that she is gone,
or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her only that she is gone,
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what she'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”

Losing a beloved animal can be very difficult, one of the deepest pains I have felt. Just reflect on the fact that you treated her with kindness and love. That along with a warm place to sleep and a full belly are all they really want. She was obviously very happy, you did good.

My condolences for your loss. May you have many fond memories to look back on, and may they never fade, but always grow yet more golden.

Please send some Smoke and Prayer for my little girl Cassady.
She is on her star journey.

It was so long ago that this little girl came into my life, i can barely remember.
I remember coming home from a hard days work and going to the babysitter to pick up my son.
While there talking with the babysitter, i was being pestered by this beautiful little brindle bundle of fur who was seeking attention from this new person.
I picked her up and sat her on my lap where she proceeded to kiss my face all over like i was someone she hadnt seen in years.
The babysitter informed me that she was the last one of a litter of four and if noone took her soon, she may have to go to the pound. I wasnt about to let such an obvious beautiful soul spend one second there.
I was rewarded a thousand fold for my action with selfless love, devotion and understanding. This little one taught me more about what it is to be a truly good being than anything thus far in my life.

We spent alot of years watching sunsets from the porch, watching TV from the safety of a warm blanket.
We had almost 22 years together.
I don't regret one second of having you in my life. I am grateful for it.
I will forever miss you.
You were the Best.

On Thursday March 15 th it was clear to us that our beloved companion Cassie would only get weaker and deteriorate into more pain. We took her to the Vet, but with her being so old and frail, there was nothing he could really do for her and as a family unit we decided to put her to sleep to avoid having her suffer.

As my dear friend Kismet said, "words don't work." And although there are few that can bring real comfort at a time such as this I always found these too be meaningful for me...

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

Karda,

The loss of anyone who is loved is a great tragedy, and no amount of condolences can backfill the void left by their departure. My Dog passed on 7 months ago and I still sometimes expect to open my door to see his wet nose sniffing and tail happily wagging just because I came home. We can only wish in life that we become half as good the people that our dogs thought we were. Loyalty and friendship seems to know no bounds with a good pet. Only time heals, Until then just hold on to the many great memories that Im sure you have and know that she is no longer suffering and in a better place probably thinking about you just as much.

I feel your pain, I lost my Lab (Jersey) a few years back and still miss her. My German Sheppard (Cheyenne) is now in failing health. Very tough to go through.

Smoke and prayers for you and yours.

What a fine lady she is in that picture. I can see the love in her eyes.
