Farmer or Hiker

Yikes, ergonomic flaw? It never bothered me, and I'm religious about keeping the knife on a dummycord when in the woods.

Yep. That's what I did. I'd certainly recommend the file over a dremel. You can screw things up fast and in a big way with a dremel. Go slow with a small file.

Good point. I actually use the file from a Vic SwissChamp for minor SAK tool mods, but I've never tried it on that key chain loop. Hmmm....

On my Farmer, Mechanic and Super Tinker I used one of my wife's jewelers saws, looks like a small coping saw to remove the bulk of the keyring loop, then used a small file to remove the rest. I put some blue painters tape on either side of where I'm cutting and filing. Helps keep the metal shavings out and helps protects against slips and marring things up.

If ya got both.. Smart move!

Make mine a Hiker.

Dont under estimate the need for tweezers.. specially with them pesky little ticks around.

Exactly what I would have done. May I also suggest the One Hand Trekker?

I picked up a OHT and a Fieldmaster yesterday. Wow! Talk about a SAK buying binge...4 in two weeks. But as I said before you can never have too many SAKs:D.

I have really grown to like my Fieldmaster. It's the one I grab when I only take one SAK with me because it has pretty much what I need/use. However, I always have my Rambler on my keychain. In the winter it's either a Mechanic or Climber in my jacket pocket.

I really like having multiple SAK's, as you have found they are quite addictive! :D

My Fieldmaster is back with Victorinox just now, the awl got a bit wobbly so I sent it back to test Vicorinox's warranty service :-)
It's one of my favourite 'all round' knives, I have a Farmer, Cybertool lite, Cybertool 41, Spartan, Spirit, Leatherman Core and my EDC which is a minichamp.
