I *think* the first ALOX SAKs came out in the 60s.
Yes, if I remember right, the Alox Soldier first came out in 1961.
I really love the Alox SAKs, especially the original Soldier, Pioneer, and Farmer. I'm kinda mixed on the Cadet...IMO, the discontinued Cadet II would be much better. The only thing I miss on them are the tweezers/toothpick.
I also carry a multi-tool, a Vic Spirit S. I've been carrying/using it the past four years. Prior to that, I used various Leathermans off and on. All were great tools, but I prefer my Spirit, even over the original Swisstool. Of all my Leathermans, the only one that still gets any carry time is my old Micra, in my work bag. It's an awesome little tool, and if I don't require fine trimming, I'll use its scissors over that on my SAK Executive. But in general, for myself, I prefer the convenience of the Vic designs.
I don't carry my Farmer much, but find lots of uses for my Pioneer around the house. I mainly don't EDc them because my Spirit has the same tools. While the redundancy may be good in the wilderness, for my daily uses, it isn't necessary. IMO, the Spirit pairs perfectly with my Executive, though.
