Farmer X: what do you think about it?

I have a couple of Farmers and Cadets but only because they were being blown out by Amazon some years ago ($16-18). But, without a toothpick and tweezers, they are secondary knives to me. Adding the scissors means nothing in my world. That said, the saw on the Farmer is a great little tool to keep in your hiking daypack. Helluva firesteel scraper too. I wish Victorinox could figure out a way to add the toothpick and tweezers to the Alox models as I love those scales.
Victorinox does have a way of adding a toothpick and tweezers (along with a file and scissors) to an Alox model... they call it their Classic... sorry I couldn't help myself ;). A Farmer paired with a Classic brings huge versatility :thumbsup: and is the only reason I haven't felt the need for the Farmer X, yet. :)
I really like the concept of the Farmer X but I'd still be missing the TT and file.

This pretty much sums up my latest thoughts on the FX.. I want one but....;)

As I carry an Executive everyday (an Ambassador before that and a Classic before the Ambassador), my need for a Farmer, whether the original like mine or the new version with scissors is pretty non-existant. I do carry a couple of them in daypacks, mostly for the saw and because I like them otherwise, just not as EDC.
I have a number of unused Classics still in their boxes as I bought a few when Amazon was blowing them out 10 or so years back for about $9 each. Great knife and the first SAK I ever carried starting in the early 70's. The tweezers made a discreet roach clip... :D

I think it's a pretty good and handy device. It will come in handy for people who like to travel because the material from which this knife is made is very strong and reliable. Or for people like me. I work in the field. In certain seasons, my crew and I don't leave the field for a few days. The guys from machinerydealer.co.uk, of course, sell quality and warm tractors, but still, we need the fire for cooking. And that's when the Farmer X can come in handy. You can cut meat and vegetables and open a can of stew with it.

I just noticed it. Basically an Alox Huntsman?
Not quite. It's heavier, way more expensive, and it has fewer tools. In terms of value, the Huntsman destroys the Farmer X. It's not even close. It gets even worse when you include the Huntsman II (the hard textured nylon scales version).

The Farmer X is a nice SAK. It's just bad value. It should be cheaper.

Toothpick... nah. Never needed it for anything. Actually putting it in your mouth? Gross. I always replace the toothpick with a Firefly ferrocerium rod. Tweezers? Yeah, I would miss those, but you can always carry a set of Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers on your key chain. They are waaaaaaaay better and definitely worth the extra money.

I you love Alox, then you should definitely have some Uncle Bill's.
