First custom knife I ever owned was bought from an old blacksmith on side of the highway in Mena Arkansas. He used rasps like this and made similar looking knifes. Toughest darn knife ever owned. Finally had mine confiscated crossing a border while in the military near the middle east. I hope someone buys this one before I break down and get it. This is beautiful Mr drew. These are typically w2 right?

Mr Drew I just wanted to say that you make some of my favorite knives on this forum. Im not a huge bowie fan but this one has me salivating! I love the traditional beauty you impart in your work. You are truly a master of the craft. Youre on my short list of must haves for when my ship comes in:)

The trouble with using an unknown steel is how to heat treat. I used the same basic process that I use on 1095 thinking this rasp would be a fairly simple alloy. It came out of the furnace harder than woodpecker lips so I tempered it back at 400 degrees for two hours. I did some

2x4 chopping with it and the edge did not chip; my test for too hard. That is all that I can tell you about the steel, manufacturers will use a wide variety of alloys (I think HF uses old Chevrolet fenders).

It's refreshing to see something entirely different. Can't resist Gerry, ...I'll take it!
Paypal on the way.

Got your PP, Idlewild. Your knife will go out in the morning mail. THANK YOU!

Man that's awesome! I'm glad somebody already bought it, at that price I would have taken it without even knowing where I'd get the money :) (Hey, my wife hasn't got any presents under the tree yet, she'd be the one to get shorted ;) )

Great buy Idle, I envy you!

Awesome knife and congrats on filling the freezer! Looking forward to seeing some more knives now that you are back in the shop! Trevor~

Very nice. I can't ever seem to be in the right place at the right time for one of your fine blades, and this one is right up my alley too. Maybe next time.

I am usually not a fan of "rasp knives" but this one is really nice. The lines of it are complementary and something about it is just special. Gerry has the knack to do that. I'd have bought that one too!
