I always hesitate to work with an unknown steel as in a file or rasp but these bowies are so much fun to make. I heat treated this using the same recipe that I use for 1095 and after a 2X4 chop and some arm hair shaving, I feel comfortable with the results.

Stock removal from a farriers rasp. (A little forging to make some bends and work on the tang.)
Flat grind with a Scotch Bright finish
Stabilized ash burl handle
The guard was forged and acid etched from wrought iron
Overall length:15 1/4 inches
Blade: 10 inches
Leather sheath

Very nice Gerry!! I really like that Ash and guard. I'm super pleased with the one you sent to me.

Sorry for the chatter, but that is one of the coolest file knives I have seen. Nice work!

That is fantastic! I love the remaining texture of the rasp. Great lines on this one and the large guard looks great.

It appears that this one is sold pending an overseas mailing rate......more later

This knife is sold

I have to comment. This has to be one of the best looking Bowies I have seen in a great while. Very elegant lines.
