I usually have one of these on my table when I work a show because so many people ask "do you ever make a knife from a file?" Files are always a challenge to heat treat because there no way to know which steel the manufacturer used. I treat them the same as I would 1095 using three normalizing cycles and two tempering cycles with good results.
