So I've got a 'challenge' for all of you knife aficionados. Give me your best EDC recommendation as fast as you can type it, don't think about it, just TYPE IT!

For those who either haven't followed instructions or want some more specifics, let's say this is a 'friendlier' looking EDC for someone who has already dipped into the ZT price range. (Let's say that aesthetics matter more than blade length)

EDIT: You can put in bigger blades if you want to, I know I said friendlier, but if you feel more comfortable recommending bigger blades, go for it!

Now why might I give this challenge? Because last month, a couple came in, and I saw that one of them was carrying a leek in his wallet, so I asked him about it, and if he was interested in the carbon fiber version. He said that he didn't really know too much about knives, but he did have a ZT 0350 that he didn't like carrying because of how aggressive it looked, so I thought of helping out the man.

They looked like they wanted to leave the register, so I had to think quickly. Out of every knife that my brain knew of, I immediately said the Spyderco Delica, and then the Para 3. He asked me if those were the 3" knives, and I said yes and so they left. The guy said he'd look into it, and although I felt like I did good, it felt strange that these were my go-to recommendations. Not only because I don't own either one, but because there are so many other good options to pick from.

I know that my job doesn't allow me to have fully meaningful knife convos with people, so when I do get to talk to a knife person, it is for a very short time. (We're outside a mall, so we get big rushes of people just wanting our product and leaving :D) I'd like to think I did well, and hopefully I get more convos like these because it keeps me on my toes

Victorinox Alox Cadet is my best EDC recommendation without thinking about it.

I thought you were done with knives because of parents?

Good recommendation! I will be taking a year break, and develop my knife-like skills as well.

Less aggressive ?
Victorinox recruit.
Good recommendations starting these off, I will not be disappointed if I see all victorinoxes/multitools

Less aggressive
Case 6208 splitback half whittler.
Victorinox tinker
KA-BAR Dozier
Case sodbuster jr

Honestly anything traditional will be less aggressive looking, plus a his leek probably had a thin blade like most traditionals which really really slice.

Is it wrong to recommend a higher end leek lol? But I really am lacking in my traditional knowledge, so I really have to study, even learn the different types of opinels/sak's because I don't feel right as a knife person throwing out a generic name brand. I want to be specific when I'm recommending

Rough Rider. Lots of traditional patterns to choose from, and you won't bankrupt the bank trying them out.
Rough Rider is also a daRn good knife - at least their traditionals are. I've never had one of their modern OHO or fixed blades, so cannot comment on them.
(I've heard there is a problem with their small liner lock "Sod Buster" pattern having the pivot fail, so avoid that one. Their large liner lock Sod Buster pattern does not have the problem; different pivot construction.)

SAK Huntsman or Recruit and an SD Classic (or Signature) for the keyring.

I typed... then realized that particular knife was discontinued.
I typed again. Discontinued.
I typed again. This one, too.
Does it say something about me that the first three answers I chose were knives that are no longer in production?

My first thought before I read the rules that instruct me not to think yet give me parameters of what I should should suggest:p, was the ZT350.

Large enough for work, small enough to carry, not an extremely scary looking knife.

For me, my edc that is not my regular 350 is the 920. Yes it's big, yes it's a thwacky flipper, but the gorgeous blade shape, and classy titanium grips keep it from screaming tactical. It's an oddball I know.

Best EDC with a big slicey Blade? Boker exskelibur 1 titanium framelock version. Cannot begin to express how much I love this lightweight thin knife. This is the best edc 3.5 inch framelock imho. You barely know you are carrying it. Comes with one of the sliciest blades with the best cutting geometry I ever did see!

Something smaller? The Kizer Feist is a great under 3 inch edc.

Go for it, there isn't any harm in recommending discontinued knives

And for having a problem? I mean... If I'm allowed to reminisce about previous girls that I've dated, I'm sure that means we both have problems letting go lol.

It is a very weird design, and I think that it's the only small Ken Onion design that I like. I think that it might be my go to recommendation

But I don't know why the guy I was talking to didn't like it. I though it was weird that he said it was too non people friendly, I thought it was too weird. I think that he might have had either the black bladed, or the tiger striped version. Or just needed to de-assist his knife.
