Have you heard of "The Wave" ? I just got one.

Sure. It's designed to catch on your jean pocket for fast opening.

Really? I didn't know that.

Next day ...

You left out a few details but I could eventually figure them out anyway. First the pliers should be in unfold position, then I need to leave the scissors partially open to make it work. Doesn't work well with the screwdrivers and the can opener. BTW this fast opening method tends to cause holes in my pocket ...

Little bit of confusion there Dew. The "wave" that you're hearing about is a little hook on the blade of Emerson's Commander. It catches on your pants when you draw the knife and opens it. Not to be confused with the Leatherman Wave multi-tool, which is what I think you've got. I hope you didn't wreck too many pairs of pants figuring that out.

Hehehe, very funny! It's high time one of the two companies chose a different name - what I've heard indicates Leatherman has the legal rights to it.

On a serious not, you can deploy the LM Wave pretty quickly. I made this horizontal Kydex clip-sheath for mine:

You just grip the tool while your finger hits that tab, and it slides forward out of the sheath. Then you can rapidly open either one-handed blade or open the pliers butterfly-style. Fun stuff!

Drew,
Cool sheath. Is yours also the Wave (LM that is), that has the modifications to it. I remember some forumite that Dremmeled some ridges onto the blades so he knew which one he was drawing out by just feeling the ridges.

When opening the one-hand blades on a Leatherman Wave, note that the blades are narrow and the thumb grooves are narrow and the construction is tight, so push the blade around to the open position with your thumb in full and controlled contact with the groove, but don't try to do it as fast as you might open your favorite "tactical," or you may find yourself shaving your thumbprint a little.

ET,
That was me that put gooves on it! Everyone who has one should try it...I just put 4-5 sm. grooves on the Sheepfoot blade (something like that on the Native). Looks very nice, and you can quickly bring out which blade you want without looking at it first. If I can ever get my pictures to work on my homepage I'll post a pic

Hi Dew, IMHO you are talking about the blade of Emerson's Commander. I have just found out this method works for the BM 710 also. Clip it in your front pocket. When you draw it out catch the bottom thub stud on your pocket. Nothing fast. I've already wore out one pocket. I love my 710.

Keith,
It sounds like a great idea and I'd do it to mine (Soon to be mine. I'm buying a Wave tomorrow). Only problem is I don't have a Dremmel and the closest tool I have that would do it is a table saw. Either way, cool idea and hope you get your web page up soon.
