That is the way I attempted to clean it out Mick, but didn't feel like I had enough control to be safe with the blade I was using. Maybe I'll try a smaller blade next time. thanks!
Nice, I wish sometimes I could do things fast, I guess if the pressure was on or I was forced to I could but I'm so hung up on the finishing work stuff takes me forever.
This is my most recent one, I'll have to find the others I've carved, I think they're stashed away in the Rendezvous box.

i still get pangs of jealousy when i see that spoon
ive actually made a few since the last thread that rescue riley (i believe) started, just random scraps of wood that i'll whittle down when im bored.. im getting decent at carving out the bowl now, but since my cam went bum at the wrong time, i havnt been able to get pictures of them, or of any recent hikes
Nice FB Hunter Bladz! I'm fixin to get one myself soon
I carved an eating size spoon for my GF for one of her Xmas presents; it was supposed to be part of a set with a larger baking spoon and a ladle...but I didn't have the time to finish the rest before Xmas, so I just wrapped up the first spoon and am still working on the others. When the carving's all done, I'll finish and treat all of them.
I used a bowl knife on mine, though I'm not sure I have the hang of it yet. It might be that I'm choosing the wrong wood as well that makes the carving tough. I've previously done the bowls like Mick does and PaleoJoe suggested, drilling or gouging out a hole and then widening it. They never came out as nice for me as the smooth wide bowls I get with the bowl knife though. I'm looking to try the coal method the next time I do a fire/bbq. Will try to snap a pic later of the one I just finished up for the GF.
