Fastener question: torx or allen chicago bolts?

I'm looking for something that has a shallow face that could be counter sunk or bored without limiting the thickness of the scales, but can be torqued down hard. I know flared tubes will keep scales very secure and free from movement, but I like the idea of something I can apply pressure to and replace easily without having to do much in the way of reshaping to get the scales perfectly flush again.

right now most of what I'm doing is very impractical (this is a modified busse):

I've seen a few instances of torx head screws that are counter sinked into the scales in a very similar fashion to flared tubes, but for the life of me I can't figure out how they are secured on the other side.

what I want is something like this:

but with this head (or allen):

does such a chicago bolt exist? if so, where can they be purchased?

lol, to show just how impractical what I did was: I had to make a bushing for the center allen head side because the drill grabbed the scales and went to deep. I was proud of myself :)

super mini lignum vitae bushing:

mickley has some spacers that use 2 torks head bolts
their 1/4 inch around and i cant remember the other specs
there kind of like stand offs that you can bolt into as they are threaded

yep thats who and what i was talking about

i still have not used the set i have (had other work to do ) but soon i hope

I think that specific knife would look better with stainless corby bolts or some hollow tubes. Great knife though. :thumbup:The hex ones seem to overwhelm the handle?

I ordered some of Tracy's spacers and bolts a while back, and I'm looking forward to using them in an upcoming large-knife project. Also, Corby bolts is something to consider if you want the look of a pin rather than a bolt head.

the hex nuts look like crap, but this looks better now that I've thinned it out a lot. since making the each scale closer to 1/4" the hex nuts have come off leaving a 1/4 pin look, and the other side is just flat steel since the allen portion has been ground down. if these ever start to fail (it's literally encased in epoxy, with the epoxy finished at 200 grit) I'll probably replace it with 1/4" canvas micarta and a set of the torx head bolts and the stand offs. Keep it closer to the busse style rather then making it custom hardwood.

I love wood handles, but nothing I have is stabalized, and I really really like the inherent grippy texture of canvas micarta.
