Fastest Folder?

If you do it right I think you can match the speed of a wave with an axis lock. The wave is sure to open the knife that fast, with the axis lock, your finger can slip and then you lose your speed.

My Axis Lock is faster than any of my AO knives. I don't even need to use the thumbstud--just flip my elbow as the knife clears my pocket and the blade deploys.

I agree with this. But I think the Wave is the fastest and most consistently fast folder.

So no auto or assisted? Well, the Wave, yeah.

But if we are basing this on a closed folder in the hand, then my vote goes to knives with a flipper. The Carson flipper/teflon spacer combo works pretty well (like on the Boker Trance), but for something even faster, look to the "Blade Launcher" (Leatherman's term) or similar contraption. These can open a folder wicked fast (no I'm not from New England ;)) and are fun and safe (no spring) to boot. I am really looking forward to the Kershaw NRG which appears to be a nice refinement of the design.

BTW- the only Axis folder I have is the Benchmade 530- I guess the axis thumbstuds are just too low profile on this one (since the knife is designed to be super thin) but I don't see how the axis would make it fast opening. With the full-sized models, do you pull on the axis to eject the blade a little and then give the knife a wrist flick? I also find closing the 530 is easier done with two hands or against a thigh since the studs are a little hard to grab and pull down on one handed.

For this, I'd give it to the axis lock with a thumbstud.

Don't know much about the 530, never held one. You should get your hands on a Griptilian. You can flick it with your wrist or you can just flick it with your thumb. I personally can flick it faster with my thumb. The flippers require me to change the hand positioning for my index finger on a flipper far more than my thumb with a thumbstud.

in my opinion you all are wronger than wrong its a balisong

hey that rhymes haha sweeeeet

Caveat: I have not handled a "wave" knife

That said, my fastest opening knife is my BM 705 sequel with the Axis lock. Slight traction on the lock stud toward you while simultaneously snapping the wrist and it's out like lightening, and back in with the reverse wrist snap. I had the chance to show this off last month at our BMW riders' holiday bash when someone needed a package opened during the white elephant gift exchange. After I'd displayed the use of the knife there was a symphony of "Ooh, did you see THAT" assorted comments from both the men and women in attendance. I was initially a little worried about how that appeared, but everyone seemed cool. After all, we are all motorcycle riders, albeit BMWs.
