Fasting - what to eat when you stop

I don't know that there is a particular reason for this but they (Indonesians in particular) eat it out of habit. Almost all the dishes that they use to break their daily fast are very sweet. Dried dates, sweetened coconut drinks and sweetened tapioca, like Boba drinks, are the most common. The meal before the fast is their normal breakfast, beef, chicken or fish. rice and/or noodles.

The Ramadan fast is a month long fast from sunrise to sunset and includes a prohibition on drinking water, smoking and thinking impure thoughts.

What they break their fast with is all sugar! Maybe to jump-start their metabolism or something? It still seems a bit excessive. Especially dried fruits and such, which I would think would go right through you!

I have read that it's best to eat protein in the morning and carbs at night, so maybe this is kind of an extreme example of the whole "when to eat what" kind of thing, like "food combining" and stuff.

Maximus, you haven't been being very nice to me lately. What is wrong with you? I thought you liked me... :(

You can be like the monks of old days and drink extremely strong beer to keep you going through those long fasts. Sounds good to me.

Heh... yeah, that would be great if I hadn't just finished rehab for alcoholism! :p

I do like you, Ashes. I just wish you'd be nicer to yourself!

Starvation isn't healthy, no matter how long or short, no matter what you call it. You aren't "detoxifying", (whatever the hell that is) you're hurting yourself.

Eat sensibly; take moderate, enjoyable exercise: you'll live longer and happier. You already have 25,000 boyfriends, how many more can you handle!

For those who are unfamiliar with the ways of fasting, it is definitely not wise to plung head-long into it. The way to fast is to do it gradually.
The body must be given time to adjust. It has been said that if the process is too rapid and drastic, the person involved may suffer from panic attacks and susceptibility to illnesses.
Like everything else concerning the human condition, moderation is always the best route to take. Detoxifying the body can be beneficial but without guidance and some common sense, the "shock" to the body may have negative effects.

I know all that, and I did do it gradually, but thanks for the post anyway. :)

I already suffer from panic attacks (I take meds for that) but that has nothing to do with my diet, since I've had them since I was a kid.

The reason I was fasting in the first place was because I felt sick and couldn't eat anything, and I wanted to just basically "detox" my body, like golok said. But, as with most things, I sometimes get carried away and it's hard to stop. I'm not a stupid person, but I can't seem to help myself sometimes. I'm eating, not much, but not starving either. I still have a ways to go before anyone could accuse me of starving! ;)

Hey, baby, can you bleed like me? Come on, baby, can you bleed like me?"

Please be careful, it is very easy to slide into anorexia and every anorexic I met thought she was fat!!!

I've always used V8 juice to come out of a fast. After three days of that, I listen to my stomach and eat what it tells me. Frequently, the first thing I eat is some type of omlette or egg dish. Once it was ice cream. I ate two small scoops and had enough.

I have fasted for 7-10 days at a time. That was many years ago. I ended my fasts with either rice or oats (oatmeal). Eat a small amount, then go back in an hour or so and repeat. Don't go with fruit or meat. Keep the first couple of "meals" simple grains. Then go to nuts and rasins with the grains. Then, whatever you want. Remember, while fasting for long periods of time stay hydrated, water or white grape juice. This worked for me.
