Fatboy or Jumbo

Well I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy my first Maxpediton product. Can't decide between the Fatboy or the Jumbo Versipack. Any thoughts?

I say go jumbo, just to be able to carry a bottle dude. I had a fatboy, and that was my main gripe was no way to pack a naglene or guyot....

You can't go wrong with Maxpedition, even though I am NOT digging my devildog. I hate it as a lumbar pack (it pulls my pants down!) and wearing it as a shoulder bag doesn't fly too well either. Wish I would have bought the proteus so I got some of the similar ones from cheaper than dirt for me and my sons. The devildog just sits there...

Get the Jumbo. Water carrier and extra pocket/holster are very nice features. I used the Fatboy and upgraded to the Jumbo simply for the water carrying ability. I wear mine whenever I am in the woods and it wears nice fully loaded. Water is a constant so the little bit bigger size of the Jumbo is hardly a hinderance to me.

i just attatched my canteen setup to the mole webbing on the fatboy.

worked ok for me.

If you get the regular fatboy, you will most likely end up buying a Jumbo some time later to replace it. I did.

What are you using it for?

I have both... wore the regular Fatboy as a "man purse" for a year+, then got the Jumbo for my wife. Turns out that she didn't like it (it doesn't stand upright like a normal purse), so I started using it.

For everyday use, I actually prefer the smaller size of the Fatboy, but I've been using the Jumbo because the water bottle holder perfectly holds the case for my sunglasses.

A nalgene bottle fits nicely in the main compartment of the regular Fatboy, something to consider. I have both, and I feel that the a small backpack is much more efficient than the Jumbo, unless you're actually going to use the concealed pocket for a pistol.

Cept you don't have to take the Jumbo off to access your gear.

Oh yeah, the GSI 18 oz stainless cup fits in the Jumbo nalgene compartment.

Again, what do you want it for?
I can see myself running around with a Jumbo on a day-to-day basis. I don't need a Nalgene bottle to go shopping.

However, if you want a daypack for the woods, then I'd readily choose the Jumbo over the fatboy.

Just do the American thing and buy both. :D

Really? My Devildog is my hands down favorite pack. Love, love, love it.

As to the OP, I like the Jumbo over the Fatboy.

I would say go for the Jumbo. I have one (S-Type) and love it. I found the pictures make it look bigger than it really is in person. I think it is just big enough. Like others have mentioned, it is nice to be able to carry a large Nalgene bottle when needed.

I have the Jumbo...I don't carry it very often, really; it mostly stays in my truck as my ditch-the-truck-and-run bag.

But I do keep it fully loaded and have probably hiked a total of thirty or forty miles with it on. The longest single hike was probably only five miles, though.

Anyway I don't find it annoying to carry. I have maybe spent ten or fifteen days total carrying it in town, particularly when I was on crutches and it was a huge pain to use a backpack.

I like the water carrying ability, for sure. When it's in the truck, I keep a 1 liter bottle of Dasani water in the pouch just because I know it's clean and not leaking. Otherwise it would be a nalgene of tap water.

I keep a lot of gear in mine and it must weigh ten pounds, but it's still totally comfortable to wear.
