I took my son Michael out into the woods on a hike for the first time today. Just him and me, and our Dachshund Sam.lol He turns 3 next week and it is time. We did not go far from my moms house because it is Shotgun season for deer here. We have 48 acres of woods that nobody hunts on but I don't trust these trigger happy boys around here. I took him where I used to camp and have parties when I was younger. It is a very neat spot. My son is everything to me. It was a great day. Next spring we are going to camp here. Here are some pics.

Awesome pics, other than the fact your boy looks like he would rather be wearing a Colts hoodie...........
It's got to be great knowing you have a new camping and hiking buddy, I myself can hardly wait. ENJOY!!!!!!!

Great looking little boy!!!! Have a bunch of fun because before you know he will be 30.

Your photos remind me of the hikes I took my 15 year old son on...

Thanks for posting.............and he will remember those times..

High Density, you & your son will remember this as long as you live. I still have pictures of my son at age 6, walking backwards up a creek bank, his fishing rod turned backwards & on his shoulder, dragging a 5.5 lb. bass out of the creek & all the time yelling for me to come & help him ( I just happened to be about 30 yrds. downstream, trying to take a picture, & laughing so damn hard I could not keep the camera from shaking:)). He is now 26 & he still can remember that trip as if it were yesterday. Good stuff, memories & bonds are made of this . .
Be safe.

Those hardwoods and limestone look like the place I was at today.Had to keep an eye out for trespassers sporting high caliber rifles.

 Amen. My wife told me the fastest 4 years of Mat's life would be from first day of high school to graduation. Seemed to me he went to school on Monday, & we were going to his graduation that week-end. God I miss those times with him, enjoy them while you can.:)
Be safe.

Hi High Density -

Very cool - thank you for a most enjoyable post to look through.

You have a fine young man there, and he is lucky to have a father like yourself.

Thanks for the pictures - you have a very nice area in which to kick around.

best regards -

Yup, that looks like my stomping grounds too! I swear I have some photos of the same rocks LOL.

Ah, thanks brother. I'll be getting to meet my little man child, my wife is due in Feb. Can't wait to get him into the woods/jungle. :D

Good times. I have pics similar of my sons, now ages 16 & 18 and busy with their buddies, girls, and social lives. Enjoy it my friend, it is fleeting.

In case inquiring minds want to know the knife in the first picture is a piece of junk that I took because my son thinks it is cool. It is not my "SURVIVAL" knife.
I was waiting for someone to comment on it. The SOG Flash 2 however is one knife that I do like. The machete is a Corona, it works very well for a cheaper machete. Nice good grip and feel.

Grab it while you can! I started taking one of my boys to the woods at age 3, and he will soon be 22.

Great post. I like to see threads like this. I just spent a day out last weekend with my oldest daughter, and it seemed like only yesterday I was building fires to let her warm up and making hot cocoa for her when she was little. Her next birthday she will legally be an adult. Time flies by and we have to teach them what we can while we can and hope we teach them enough.

I enquired about the knife because I was impressed with the fact that this was the knife you had in the field that day, yet you at least support this site by getting at least a basic membership. I have seen several here that frequent the site who sport much more expensive knives yet who have opted for the free membership for years.

I asked about the knife to gain some insight into your thoughts on knives in general. The reason for this was my having been inspired by brother Rotte's last give-away to take a higher road with my next give-away.

I have been trying to figure out for a few weeks how I was going to go about it, and was going to do it for my 6000 post give away. I wanted it to include support for this site and this forum in particular, of which I am very fond, and I wanted it to include getting the family and children involved in the wilderness. I also wanted it to be about someone who was more interested in getting out and doing than which knife they were fielding.

Then along comes this post. The man takes his young son out on his first woods hike at a young age to get it all started, has a good grasp on things with the multiple tools. He's obviously more concerned with getting his son motivated and into the woods than impressing us with his blade-ware, and only having been a member for a month he supports the site.

Congratulations bro, you won my contest before I even knew what it was going to be. PM me with your name and address, I have some things I want to send to you in a few days. I do have to get the stuff together because while I had some idea of what I wanted to do I wasn't all together sure so I wasn't quite ready for it yet but I'll get it together as fast as I can. The only thing I ask is that we get to see pics of you fielding some of it on another outing with the boy and I'll look forward to seeing more outings from you in the future.
