Well my son's been getting on me about wanting to make another knife, he's a little young, but he likes to always have his hands in something. He will be drilling all holes, and chosing the handle material, as well as blade finish, ill do all grinding, then the finished product will depend on how much hand sanding he is willing to do.

The knife is actually what he drew on paper, i just transfered it.

I talked him in to giving a WIP thread a try, bear with him as he's only going on 7.........but his spellings probably better than mine.

now gonna turn it over to the kid........

this is me johnny

Cool! Keep the pics coming. I am going to put a knife together for my son who was born this year and give it to him once he is old enough.

Great thread! Great kid! Chip off the old block. Can't wait to see more.

hey johnny, you may want to mention some safety glasses to your dad :)
very cool! cant wait to see more!

:eek:how true man:o, he gotta wear them, but i usually dont.............thats why im in the ER as least 3 times a year having chips taken out of my eye. rally gotta start though with him in the shop more and more. gotta set a better example.:o

Nice design Johnny. Looking forward to see how this one develops.
Anyone can play a xbox or playstation. Very few your age can make their own knife though. How cool is that?
Take your time and most importantly, be safe at all times.

His spelling IS better than yours Andrew :p YOU NEED TO WEAR SAFETY GEAR SO HE KNOWS TO WEAR SAFETY GEAR!!!!! jeez....

Get some glasses on dad and somes shoes on Junior.

It is great to se a father and son work on a project.

Really cool project Andrew!

Looks like you got hammered on the safety glasses enough already. I've had steel slivers carved out of my eyeball on two separate occasions and I WAS wearing safety glasses in BOTH situations.

I have gone to what some refer to as a "spoggle." They are safety glasses with an elastic band and a foam cushion around the eyepiece.... makes it nearly impossible to get crud in your eyes. I HIGHLY recommend them!

It will be great so see more added to this thread Andrew :)

thanks nick , i hope to be working on this tomorrow.

i think the boys going to stay home from school sick:barf::barf: .....yeah pretty gross stuff. but im sure he's going to get restless in the afternoon and get a sudden energy burst, so i'll take a break and bring him down the shop, gonna have them glasses sitting there waiting on us.

thanks
andrew

andrew-that's great you're doing that with your son!

johnny-nice pictures and cool design...make sure your dad snaps a pic of you holding it when it's done!!

hey nick-can u post or pm me a link with the safety glasses u got?

i did a thread on the first one we made just a show off pic, not a WIP, here's what it looked like though, his design, and he drilled all holes, drew initial pic, i just evened it up a bit, and he sanded after i ground till he got bored and he loves it.

Hey bro, I think I met you a few years back at a knife show in Leesport PA selling RR spike knives. Was that you?

If so, they were some great specimens you had there. I wish I would have picked one up. When is the next show there?
