we took my dad out to eat for fathers day and he slides across a metal tin, containing a purty 2005 C. Platts (case family)Trapper!!! It's a purty thing but in all honestly i never got the trapper, particularly the long spey, dont get me wrong i cherish any gift i get but this is the third trapper he's got for me over the years... me thinks my old man is a closet trapper fan rather than the yeller peanut he carries, ya think he trying to send me a message?:D Do i need to understand the trapper, i mean he's become a heck of a trapper pusher!
anyways i'm not complaining too much (and its light hearted) as i dont really buy them for myself anymore
anyway heres the picts of it along with the knife i carried yesterday for fathers day, was my grandads Camillus #26 Hunter that i received when i was 12 or 13, still have it 27 years later! and the knife to have if you want your full size trapper look like a pipsqueak
hope ya all had a great day!

That is a beautiful Trapper. It does sound like your Dad might be a secret fan of the pattern. I can understand why as it is an attractive pattern as well as a very dependable working man's knife. Obviously I am a fan.;)

Nice knife. I agree on the Spey blade. In fact I would prefer them with just a single clip point (which is what I carry :))

That is one good looking knife. I'm a trapper fan and your dad knows a good one when he sees it.

Don't obsess over the point on the spey blade. It's just a long blade with a straight edge. Dern handy for rough jobs.

Maybe your Dad's passing the trappers on to someone he thinks will appreciate them more than he will, being a peanut fan and all...

perhaps, or could be the size too, trappers a big knife and he knows the smallest i carry and use is a medium stockman, go big or go home:D
he definitely has a good eye for them as he's picking purty ones:D
for christmas i may return the favor with a smaller trapper for him, last year i got him a barlow

Hi Guys.
I just bought the very same C. Platt's trapper as the OP.
It is my kind of knife, but my first Case, & I have a question.
The tang of the spey is marked "SS", which I assume means stainless steel. What kind of steel is this?
I had thought the CV steel people talk about was stainless, because of the chrome, but the included note from Case infers that CV is not stainless.

I like the trapper with 2 blades. I keep the spey for food prep, & the clip for everything else. The bone on tthis one is the most attractive I have seen, & it goes well with the brass pins.

Case is the most collected BRAND in the world. The Trapper is the most collected PATTERN in the world.

Case SS is something they call Tru-sharp, which is a essentially 420HC.

I think that your father is a wise man. He is trying to let you discover the joys of carrying a trapper. I love them. The clip gets the most use but the spey is kept scalpel sharp for any emergency surgeries that are needed. I often get splinters and things like that and need to do some fine cutting on my skin. The spey blade is perfect for the job. Of course I hope to never need it for the surgery for which it is designed.
