Father's Day Knives

Glad to see you get that one, Michael; I have one also (no box). Along these lines, you might get a kick out of my #500 post, coming to your theater soon.

Michael, I somehow missed youir question re the stamp (I've been missing a lot here lately, you guys have been editing these things in later, right?:D )

Got a little more info for you too re. the trademark, which I believe was intially filed for tableware, but then quickly included the Sears line. The "samples" that were included with the application included these Sears pieces, which were rejected because they contained the Sears name as well. They then sent only Imperial labelled items (an invoice and the two sticker examples) which were approved:

There was to be a penny taped under the "Legend of the" heading. The shield image under the folding eagle card is part of the paperwork that describes the A.C.A. Edge characteristics ;)

Great information Eric! I hope you don't mind if I archive these pictures of the die stamps and the trademark registration, and the penny-gift tag too. Every little tidbit I/we uncover adds a bit more to the story behind these knives, as well as the Baer/Sears story.

The former Sears sporting goods manager is "researching his archives" to see what he can find regarding these knives and... the J.C. Higgins and Ted WIlliams knives... and...and the mysterious Tom Dunlap. Who knows what further treasures await us!

Here is thelogo printing from the American Eagle Collection box lid. The logo artwork printed in gold foil didn't change from the first hinge top woodgrain box in 1969 thru at least my later leatherette slip top boxes.

It doesn't match those particular stamps that I can see, so there is likely several additional packaging variants I have not found yet. I suspect that may be the series of hunting knives that came with the "elephant hide" impressed sheaths, but that is just speculation at this point.

No problem at all Michael, ( and those handles as well, I forgot to reply to you on that).

I definitely see what you mean about the eagle differences. Interesting to see that the American Eagle stamp and the Craftsman Premium stamps are quite similar. I wonder when those Premiums came out?
