Today Switchblade61, 6Shooter, Munky88 & myself set out on the fatwood warpath. We all met up at and set off into the woods. Right off the bat we found a ton of fatwood, so much that we left it behind to grab on the way out.

log after log of fatwood was found. We crept thru the forest, throwing tomahawks and slaying fatwood.

Entering a small clearing we stopped and processed some of the fatwood. Most of it was thrown away, we only kept the best pieces.

Enemies appeared in the woods, they stopped and stayed their distance, even their dogs were afraid of our Raiding Party with our fierce knives and tomahawks. We extended our greetings anyways, but they hurried on their way.

During the raid, there was Fatwood Collateral Damage...........a salamander was chopped in half during the assault on a stump.

The buzzards were out in force today, biting us. We lit fatwood torches to dispel the skeeters. Thick oily black smoke filled the forest.

We left the woods and returned to our steel horses. Divvied up the haul of fatwood, about 50 lbs worth.

Soul stealer images to follow, once Munky88 & Switchblade61 get home!

:D

SWITCHBLADE61, can you CROP the photo of the fatwood on my truck......so the truck is not visible?

Why not crop entire posts like this one in the future? I'm receiving complaints from members about the legality of the actions described above. Borderline inappropriate for the WS&S forum. 1st and last warning. That goes for all posters.

People can complain all they want. It is NOT ILLEGAL in my location to use knives, use tomahawks, or gather fatwood on CROWN land. I will not crop my posts because a few peoples panties are twisted in a knot because they are not allowed to gather supplies in the woods where they reside. I asked Switchblade61 to crop the truck photo he took because i am a private person and I dont need my truck posted all over the internet, NOT because of any perceived "illegal" activity.

Kestela, please email me ASAP.

What is the story here? It is illegal to process and take out fatwood? People on the forums are complaining about it? The frequency of Bushy's posts or the content of them? I'm trying to understand here, but it seems, at first approximation that the warning is fruitless and without merit. Please elaborate for the rest of us, as we were also warned.

What is illegal about hiking and gathering fatwood? Who on earth would complain about that post and what grade are they in? I think it is reasonable to assume that not all complaints are worth listening to.

It's Illegal to gather sticks in the woods? Ok maybe the post was worded a bit aggressively, but it's tongue in cheek.

Most of the odd looks were coming from the fact that they saw a strange looking man walk up to a rotting stump, produce a large knife, scratch and sniff the stump and smile contentedly before wandering off.

I'll have pictures soon. trying to upload the video of the poor salamander... tail waggling around like a grub.

Who cares how it was worded...it was a post about wood on a forum on the intertubes. Hardly worth getting your panties in a bunch over, let alone a stern talking to.

I'm about done here.

It has become a tree hugging. green initiative, socialist lovefest here.

Are we really considering censoring posts about collecting dead wood stumps?

I'm done. You guys practice your "Wilderness and Survival skills" and your Altoid tins.

I'm going to go use a hatchet to go cut down a tree just for the hell of it.

Later-

yes my OP was a tongue in cheek post about a bunch of guys with knives going into the WOODS (not park, WOODS) and playing Indian Raiding Party, but in this case "fatwood" raiding party. in this case "raiding" does NOT equal ILLEGAL THEFT.

Any further issues regarding perceived illegal wrongdoings can be dealt with by contacting my attorney, Davis & Company 666 Burrard St, Vancouver BC Canada. I would be delighted to send a bill for this hassle and FALSE ACCUSATION/LIBEL/SLANDER, along with my TIMBER HARVEST PERMITS.

in short, BACK OFF (not you Munky)

Uh, oh...now you've done it Bush!:D
Now you've inspired me to take, by force, from a stump in the forest near me, the very fatwood you speak of. I am sure that without said stump's consent that tree rape charges will be inevitable. Wish me luck at the trial.

I guess it all depends on where you are gathering fatwood.

In many places (like parks and nature preserves) distroying and/or taking material is indeed against the law, and as such is very bad form.

Other area's (like federal and state forest, and of course private land) may allow the taking of firewood, and I don't see a problem gathering fatwood from those areas.

I think the damage I see from people needlessly chopping/cutting down live trees for no reason is much more a problem then anyone digging into dead pine stumps.

Unless the original poster says "Hey, I just snuck on FEDERAL land and took 3 elk and a mountain goat" who gives a care?????

Is it really so pathetic that the moderators are REALLY worried about some legality of taking dead freaking trees ???

Man, you people need a shot of testosterone directly in the genitals.

I must say I'm genuinely interested as to why someone in concerned. The area was logged over 100 years ago, there are dead stumps every 5 feet, and rejected laying rotting tree's. We're literally picking up sticks. Did I miss something. Does something eat fatwood(other than bushy), use it for shelter (salamanders?) is fat-wood vital to the survival of some rare woodland creature.

To everyone but us, its literally just a piece of wood laying on the forest floor that hasn't rotted yet for some unknown reason.

Bushy, I can't find the video on the camera. Do I need to do something special?

So, what's the problem here? First and last warning? For what? What laws or rules were broken, exactly? ...or perhaps someone had a bad hair-day?

Yeesh, I thought it was pretty clear that Bushys post was quite tongue in cheek. It's not like we were wearing war paint(though there were a couple of war cries:p), chopping down trees and lighting forest fires:rolleyes:. The only physical harm was inflicted on me,by my self, twice:o

Some people need to pull their wedgies out before they start to choke on them.

Had fun today, looking forward to seeing the pics:thumbup:. Had a pretty sick haul, thanks guys.

Well, these fatwood posts have drawn a lot of scrutiny lately.

There seems to be a growing number of the "humans aren't a part of nature" faction here that truly do think you're doing something wrong by picking up dead sticks, because "nature" should be allowed to let it rot or burn in a forest fire. Should you pick up dead wood a beetle might die and you'll ruin the landscape for the next guy who wants pristine vistas of tree stumps.

God help you if you light a fire.

BTW, I think the problem Kevin has is the complaints he's getting from others.

I certainly hope he doesn't mean we are supposed to preface our posts with multi paragraph disclaimers describing how we've taken every step in the known universe to avoid breaking the minutest law -- like most gun forums demand.
