fatwood....yip i have 40 lbs

hey if you want any of mine i will be more than happy to share....just some char cloth altoid tins jut twine or something in exchange;)

I guess I'm lucky because here in North Carolina it is very easy to find an old pine stump in the woods. We call it Lighter Knot.
You and I should get together and start a business. But thern, I always keep what I gather.

It's all over the place if you know where to look in the woods. Make dust and it lights everytime.

As an experiment I soaked a piece of fatwood in water. It was completely immersed for six hours. Then I shook the water off and scraped a pile of tinder. It took a few extra hits on the ferro rod, but the stuff lit right up.

I tried that the other day as well, I soaked a small piece for over a day, wiped the water off, made the shavings and worked as well as ever. Good stuff.

Went to my local Lowe's today and they had 5lb boxes for $5.98 after tax. 5lbs is quite a bit. Can't imagine have 40 lbs. LOL

I'm looking forward to working with this. Seems to be easier than a mag block, just as weather proof and a whole lot cheaper. Now I need to get a better ferro rod.

Later,

Charlie
