Favorite “peasant” knives

redsparrow redsparrow Good point about an inexpensive fixed, Mora covers this and their Red handle is something of an icon. Of course I prefer the domestic version ;) An inexpensive puukko from Marttiini is my choice for a fixed and they are still available around 30€ including the sheath. I know a lot of people - usually abroad...- delight in custom puukko makers but I just want a hardy tool. Remember, in the old times a puukko was very much a versatile implement in many sizes, used for hunting, cooking, woodworking, gardening and fishing, still carried by carpenters and workmen as the cutting/finishing tool of choice (even if many of them are Mora or Chinese!) Smiths made blanks and men made their own handles to suit. No other fixed blade has such a clever & reliable sheath, never lost one as they hold the knife tight, nor does the pommel stab you in the ribs when you sit down being a dangler.
