It was a big year for me as I bought 18 knives. My favorite for 2017 is a Hinderer XM-18 Harpoon Spanto in M390. Since my state finally repealed the automatic knife ban this year, my runner up is a Microtech UTX-85 in bronze and carbon fiber.

What’s yours?

Toss up for me...Hinderer Maximus or a large inkosi tanto in red micarta. easy to cut yourself with the maximus but certainly a conversation starter.

The GB2 (left)

Got the GB2 in June this year. Yeah I had it on my mind for quite awhile. It's my go to folder when I want something larger than my 940.

I'm a huge fan of the GB1 and still consider it my "ranch" knife.
The GB2 is a different knife, better edc imo, based on Gayle's #4 folder.

They should have saved the cf for the GB2 and put fairly aggressive G10 on the GB1.

Emerson CQC-7V, my current EDC. Veeeery close second: Spyderco Military.

They're different in all sorts of ways, but they both absolutely nail so many things I look for in a knife.

Sorry for the crappy photo, it's dark here. :D

I just opened up a set of Global kitchen knives I got in the mail a few hours and am very impressed so they may take the medal this year.

Close runner ups are my Spyderco Tasman Salt 1 and white Victorinox Spartan which are pretty much the only knives I bought this year and ended up actually keeping/carrying.

A Spyderco Southard. I carried my first one for about 2 years, absolutely loved the knife. Wanted to move up to a Hinderer so I sold it, along with a few others to move into an XM.

I always planned to get another one in time, but when I heard that they would be discontinued, I moved quickly to replace it. I'm glad that I did. I still love the Southard and won't let this one go.

Years not over yet and I've got a knife that's supposed to be here already.
I've wanted said knife for a long time, so when it gets here it may be my favorite knife purchase of 2017.
With that being said I've received some generous and wonderful gifts from forum members here that are more special than any knife I could purchase.

I bought quite a few great knives in 2017. My first Bastinellis, I added several folders to my ZT collection, got some customs, and so on. However my two favourites are a humble SAK (Pioneer X) and a Spyderco Junior my girlfriend got me for my birthday.

I always wanted a Pioneer with scissors, I didn't know the Pioneer X was available in my country, so I was very happy to find one on sale while looking for something else.

The Junior is a lovely EDC knife. It also has tons of sentimental value. My girlfriend conspired with some mates of mine to find out which knives were on my wish list and chose one that was out of production and which she knew I'd carry often (she didn't want to buy me a safe queen).

Finding an out of production Spyderco in my country is no easy feat. It was quite expensive, too (we usually pay double US retail over here, plus our currency is like 18:1 compared to US dollars). She has no idea about knives, he effort to learn made it an even better gift.

Interesting why do you say the GB2 is a better EDC? Do your EDC tasks call for a larger knife? I've been eyeing the GB1 forever over the GB2 because it's slightly smaller and therefore IMO a better EDC.
