They've been growing on me.

The Gold Class Mini Presidio looks pretty nice... but worth the cost of a Sebenza or even an LE/inlaid Sebenza.. I seriously doubt it.

ive had the chance to handle a cople, very nice, but I prefer a sebenza and some. They don't feel like using knives to me

My local B&M has 2 Gold Class Shokis.... I handled one of them and was definitely not overly impressed. A Mnandi is EASILY a better/nicer knife with more attention to detail. A William Henry is also a better option IMO. It seems to me that the Gold Glass knives are for collectors and rich people who just don't shop around or even really know all that much about knives.

The older ones.

The latest GC's are nothing special and ridiculously overpriced.

Just the latest in Benchmades push to drive us away.

(Hey BM, government contracts don't last forever.)

Feels good to know that my collection gallery is good for something ;)

Out of the ones I have it's a tie between the 910Ti and 706-02. Fit and finish and details on those are amazing.

If i was putting up that kind of cash for a knife it would be a seb.
They are different animals. But basic Sebbies are users first and maybe somewhat collectible, mostly as a part of EDC usable collection. Just like productions BMs. Sidenote. Some Gold BMs cost less then CRKs.

And with both companies (and many others out there) following is true. Just like LE yearly sebs, Gold class BMs rarely see any actual use. They are collectibles first, and users for very few.

I'm not a fan of Benchmade's 'Gold Class' (or 'William Henry Class,' as I choose to call it). At the end of the day, a Benchmade Stryker, even with a carbon fiber handle and anodized liners, is still a Benchmade Stryker.;)

I'm actually not a fan of CRK, as a personal preference....I don't really see anything there meriting more than $150 for the basic unmodified folders.

And you're right, they are, for the most part, merely dressed up existing Benchmades (I guess exceptions would be where there was an improvement in blade steel, etc). But that's ok, I like exotic-looking materials with Benchmade internals. As far as I can tell, basically all high end knives are at least very, very similar to existing much cheaper knives, but using more exotic materials and more labor.

I have a Gold Class story. I turned 50 about a year ago. My family, unbeknownst to me, got together, pooled their money, went to the local knife shop, and picked out a very expensive knife they thought I'd like: a Benchmade Gold Class Lum:

It cost them $800. Just think of the knives you could buy for that, custom, Chris Reeve, Strider, etc.

When I opened it on my birthday, I was both touched and disappointed. Right away I noticed flaws in the workmanship, fit and finish. Basically, it was the same so-so quality as the $100 regular version of the 745 Lum: Blade off center, gap in scales, rough finish on the gold plating, and pivot way too tight (and who wants to mar a 24k plated screwhead adjusting it).

(I went to sell the Gold Class last month but backed out at the last minute with the buyer's permision because, despite its flaws, it has sentimental value to me.)

My point is at least with this example the workmanship did not come close to matching the high price.

To each - his own. If we all had same exact tastes life would be pretty boring :)

I like my 745-81, even for a large size gold run (250 pcs) it sold very well. Much better then same size run of Gold Kulgera 930-91, which is also a very nice knife.

It's not a 'gold class' but I would take the LE Rift with carbon fiber and an M4 blade.

It is my favorite Benchmade design and with M4 blade. I think I might trade both my NIB 710 with M4 blade for one.

it wasn't always like this...

sorry for the animosity towards CRK. They're not my cup of tea, but I don't want to demean them.

Nice link on those Benchmades....beautiful knives.

This is the one I'm very roughly considering picking up....pretty decent price at 400 I figure.
