Just wanted to see what everybodys favorite length and weigth in a folder was.I like blades 3 to 3.5 inches max and under 3 ounces. Im trying out the Buck Vantage that weigths around 4 ounces. This knife has some heft to it.So far so good .Thanks
I don't really have much concern for weight as long as it's somewhat reasonable for the size. anything around the Umnumzaan or XM-18 weight is just fine for me. I don't really like it when knives that feel too light, like the Benchmade 960 was extraordinarily light. I think I like knives with blades between 3.5 and 4 inches, but wouldn't mind something at 3 inches. I wouldn't go lower though.
+1 This is mine exactly although I tend more towards the 3.25" but they are really hard to find. I like something that disappears in the pocket but has enough heft and length to get some serious work done if I have to.
I generally like, and buy, 3 inch blades and stay in the area of 3-4oz.
That's pretty ideal for me. I like lightweight blades. For a larger, 4" or so folder, I like 5-6 oz tops. If it's heavier, I'll usually leave it at home.
Weight isn't really an issue for me. I prefer larger folders.3.75"- 4" is ideal but I also like larger 5"-6". Although I don't carry knives that big very often. I don't know why but I just can't get into carrying smaller folders.
I like about a 3" blade for EDC. I can get away with bigger or smaller by about an inch, though. I like lightweight and slim for carry. Though heavier and thicker obviously feels better in hand.
For instance, the Native and Centofante are both great clipped in pocket or IWB. Tenacious feels a bit better in hand.
For most EDC tasks (office/home), I don't need a blade longer than 2.5" (A Kopa is ideal, though a Delica is do-able). Or do I need a bigger blade? Is there an advantage to a 3"+ EDC for light use?
3.75" to 4" is ideal. Weight is not too much of a concern since bulk in the pocket is more important. If I can't reach in and grab my keys easily then it is a problem. Folders that I EDC that fit this description include large Sebenza, Spyderco Military, and BM710.
