Favorite Bowie Knives

Got a couple. Cold Steel 1917 bowie, Kizlyar DV2, and a real user the Schrade schf45

I'd say this imperial h6 is technically a Bowie knife, and it's the only real one I've got ( I have a few cheapos, one from Pakistan and the other an 80's made in Japan )

I don't think that Imperial qualifies as a bowie knife. People equate clip points with bowie knives, but no one knows what old Jim's knife looked like. Could have been a clip point, could have been a spear point or a straight backed piece. What is known is that it was a large knife, with ~ 9 1/2 blade. What's the blade on that Imperial, 5" or so?

I think size, not blade profile is the defining feature of a bowie.

I don't own any bowies. However my grandfather has quite a few. Here is one he gave me recently to help him sell online. Parker-Edwards Damascus/stag bowie, benchmade by Randall Gilbreath.

Guess my favorite, tho I luv em all, has to be Jeremiah Johnson's

this one by Covington is awful sweet

Wow, very beautiful knives. Thanks to everybody for sharing. The knife Jim Bowie used at the Sandbar fight is described as a large butcher knife. Today nobody really knows what it looked like but you know a bowie when you see one.
Wish that I had purchased some of the Ontario made Bawell Bowies when they were in production as well as the Gerber Bowie with the coffin shaped hadle.

I think it still qualities as a mini Bowie knife, it looks just like a mini version of what most people think of as a Bowie knife ( late 1800's -1900's )
I wouldn't call every clip point a Bowie knife, but to me if it's got a cross guard, a clip point blade, and was designed to look like a cowboys knife then it's form of Bowie knife.

It is quite an oxymoron, so maybe baby Bowie is a better term.
The biggest Bowie that can be safely attributed to Sen. C.M. Clay looks like about a 6-incher. He always spoke (or rather wrote) of "my Bowie", not dagger or dirk or hunting knife.

My own favorite is a pre-Fiskars Gerber that is 9.5" long, 1.5" wide in the blade, and a bit over 0.25" thick at the back. Though I like my W49 too. It's a great cutter.

For my picture for this collection of fine looking knives, I have my Western W46-8. I also have a Western w49.

These are two of my favorites, made by two guys who really know what they are doing, in all aspects of knife making, ABS Journeyman Smith's Karl Andersen and Ben Seward.

lol..

At the Alamo they have a knife there described as a "Bowie knife". I will have to see if I have a photo of it. It was made of a farriers rasp, around 8 inches or so in blade length. Looked like a really large butcher blade, like a nessmuk just a lot longer. They state there that while it was found at the fort just outside of the main church area, they didn't believe it was the original Bowie knife that was carried by James Bowie. They also state that James Bowie, the person known for carrying and creating the name of "Bowie knife" was not the person to make it, his brother made it for him after he got shot in a fight.

Favorite Bowie Knife?

Hmmmmm, production would be a Western W47 as well as C.S. Natchez Bowies. Can't beat the two customs Kris showed:thumbup:

But guys, hate to burst your bubble but the ORIGINAL BOWIE KNIFE is made in Japan by Sabre and Only measure a little over 5" It says it right there on the blade:D

This is my "use on all tasks that could break a knife" shop knife;) had it since I was a kid.
