I'm partial to Gransfors Bruks axes/hatchets, Silky Saws and Fiddleback Machetes. I've also had good experiences with Wetterlings, Hultafors and Condor.
For larger axes I prefer older Kelly True Temper or Older Collins. Camp axes I like Estwing but my favorites have been the ones I have forged and done all by hand. Not everyone has the setup to forge their own, so Estwing and the likes are great tools and less expense than Granfors Bruk. I also use a camp knife with a 10" blade of 5160 steel rather than a machete.
This is in the Traditional Forum, because it started out as a question primarily about "traditional machetes". With the drift of the focus into axes and hatchets, it is on the verge of being moved to a different forum.
You can't go wrong with Imacasa, Tramontina and Condor. They all offer great value for the money. One that hasn't been mentioned, and what I favor, is Aranyik.
I posted this in traditional, because I prefer traditional styles and things. Also not particularly fond of the general forum. Not sure why it matters...
