Favorite Busse big knife

since i only have 1 big busse, i gotta vote for the CGFBM.

I was initially interested in its looks, but after handling it, and chopping with it, it would be hard for me to imagine a better large blade.

The big blade for me, a CGFBM as a user. Noting it can't handle, and not too big or heavy to haul around. The FBMLE and FFBM are my second choice.

Another one for CGFBM!

OK, OK - my BWM LE was waiting for me when I got back in town and its a tough call - this thing is just amazing!!!

so CGFBM and BWM LE :D

I got a Scrap Yard CG Dumpster Mutt, which was nice enough except for its handle. That recycled Basic handle was too small for my hand. The short grip was shaped to further reduce finger room. My hands are big enough that I never liked that handle.

Now everybody is in love with the Basic 11. It sure sounds like a good deal. Light weight! Good chopping! Light weight! Good chopping! But…how do the big handed among us feel about that Basic II grip? I’d hate to spring for one and get stuck with another Dumpster Mutt handle.

The handle on the B-11 is larger than the DM. There are two sizes of handles in Res-C, the bigger knives get the bigger handles. I think I saw a comparison shot somewhere, but I'll be out taking pics of sheaths later and can do a handle comparo for you if you like.

Thanks. A shot of one in-hand would help.

Not in hand, but I hope it shows you the difference, the DM I have has a Swamp Rat style handle, but they are similar in size. The other knife is a Camp Tramp.

My best chopper is my most expensive Busse ..... this Nuclear TTKZ is unusual in that it is flat ground and Double Cut but it is thinner and lighter than my other KZ's and weighs only 30 oz's which puts it in the same league as a NMFBM .... but it chops better .... infact because of the thin profile it bites as deep as any of my KZ's .... and is relatively light compared to 36 oz's for a TTKZ ....

It is easy to work with and can go through thick logs at a fast pace ....

I have all of the main contenders in the large "Busse's" .... the TTKZ, the KZII, the NMFBM, the FBM flat grind military over run ( akin to the FBM LE ), the Basic 11, the BWM LE, and have had a FFBM and a CGFBM and this one is the best so far on performance to weight ....

It bites deep .... not hard to sink the blade to the spine ....

and is a pleasure to use ...

The only choppers I have are the FBM 2007 SE, the NMFBM, the B11, and the Scrap Dog Father. I've never used the FBM 2007 SE, so I can't speak on that one. Also, let me say that I have tendonitis in my right elbow. If I have to chop for more than 30min., I have to use the B11 or the Dog Father or my elbow, feels like I beat it with a hammer. If less than 30mis., I use the NMFBM. If you don't have elbow issues, go with the NMFBM. It out chops the others by about 25%. I would like to try a KZ, but I don't know if it would be that much better.

Peter, that flat ground KZ is amazing. How thin is it just behind the edge? Did you alter the profile at all?

I did covex the edge and sharpen it .... but the grind profile is as it came ....

I will get my calipers and check it tomorrow ....

If you're talking a large, in-the-field, camp/woods knife that you have to backpack in yourself, I'd suggest the SAR-8.
If you're talking a large, in-the-field, military application knife for general duties, I'd suggest the NMSFNO.
If, as most of the others here have assumed, you want a big damn (.45 'cause they don't make a .46) category chopper where weight is not a consideration, then I'd suggest a FBMLE or NMFBM.

It's not too small to do heavy work, not too big to carry, and can do a lot of the machete type work if you just polish the edge (keeping the factory angle even).

The BWM is very nice, but really falls behind as a chopper.

The MOAB is on my lust list, but it sacrifices too much on the low end to be considered a great all-rounder (which is one of the considerations making the CGFBM my favorite).
