As for the Digi-patterns I think that was developed to fool the human eye at a distance.

Digital camo patterns are to mess with digital imaging systems such as night vision, UAV cameras, etc.

I've found that well-worn OD is about the best camo there is, for people or animals. Probably because it looks natural to the environment you're in -- because it is!
