Titanium with a Carbide Edge is the way to go on cardboard!

Yep, my cardboard killer!

I actually made that one for myself but decided to post it to see of it would sell and as you can see, it did. I made it with opening cardboard boxes in mind. I'm right handed so I did a left hand chisel grind so that the flat would be on the bottom and the bevel would be facing upward when opening a box right handed. This grind helps keep the blade level when following the edge of a box. A lefty would need the bevel on the other side. I also put that little upward angle on the edge so that the blade would slice into the cardboard at a steeper angle without having to intentionally angle by hand. I hope all that makes sense. I open a lot of boxes so I put a bit of thought into it. The Sheepfoot tip with a straight edge should also handle other cutting tasks as well. Again, the angle will allow for plenty of knuckle clearance when cutting onto or into a flat surface.
I have a few of these blades already heat treated and ready to finish. Some are slightly different. If you're interested let me know and I'll email you a pic of the blades and you can pick out the one you like best. You can also specify handle material, sheath, etc.. Feel free to email or call using the contact info in my sigline below.

Within a couple days of getting my knife, I contacted Darrin about possibly making a few changes. Some of the design touches were not what I imagined for a pure cardboard slicing blade. I have used it nearly daily for a few months, and I will say that I would not change a thing (sorry Darrin - that's why I haven't contacted you again:foot:). It is very well designed, feels great in hand, and just cuts and cuts. Thin stock, good geometry, good design and heat treat. Couldn't ask for more.

I can turn almost any knife into a fast cardboard cutter, since I cut many boxes at work daily, including double ply wax cardboard for heavy vegetables. Those boxes are super tough.
It's about thinning the edge, giving it a wider bevel (grinding out shoulders), and polishing the heck out of it.

Currently I use my sebenzas and spyderco southard/paramilitary 2.

Thanks for all the replies, guys!

I enjoy seeing the photos and learning about what works for people.

Problem is I started rereading Ankerson's tests and started lusting for something with a "super" steel I hadn't used yet.

Of course, Spyderco just released their Mule Team 24 in Maxamet yesterday, and since it's #4 on Mr. Ankerson's list AND since I never had a Mule before ...

you guys know what happened. My CLICK BUY NOW finger twitched and a Mule is on its way as I type.

Ahhh, I feel better.

Anyway ... that was before Mr. Sanders' post, which got me drooling over his knives, too, so there's that.

The upshot: One way or another I'm going to slay some cardboard :D
