As I go through phases of liking modern knives and traditional knives, I've accumulated large amount of slipjoints, and many of them old beaters that I haven't connected with. A lot of them never get carried, and I have about 10 knives out of 60 that I carry often.

That being said, I want to expand that number. What do you guys suggest for me? I like carbon blades, my limit for blades on one knife is three (I'll make an exception if it's a Congress) and handle material isn't a huge deal.

So throw some suggestions out there! Try not to flood this thread with GEC recommendations :p

Thank you CJZ! Just wanted to see where you stood EDC wise!

Lots of days. I like to pair a SAK ALOX (Pioneer/Farmer/Soldier) with a Case Sod Buster Jr. in CV or a Douk-Douk.

Canal Street makes a very nice "English Barlow" in 440C, it's something aside from GEC. Not carbon, but worth a look IMHO. 440C, is sort of the point where a carbon person, like myself begins to take note.

I like it.

Thanks for your input!

Yes! :D + a carbon trad slippy...usually!

Lots of folks like a SAK Cadet but I do not own one...in ALOX, I like 93mm's.

Case yellow trapper in cv! No more no less.

Beat you to it! I have a Mini Trapper in Amber bone. I don't use it much since it's stainless, perhaps I should buy a CV version?? :D

well, by the list i dont recognize all the knives you like to carry but i can say that a douk douk is very similar to the mercator in that the handle is a folded piece of metal and the blades are carbon. they make a model that has a spear point blade similar to the mercator but i dont know if its carbon. douk douks dont lock but they have a very strong spring and a half stop so i find them to be very secure.
i feel that everyone should try an opinel. if you have already tried one then disregard this section lol.
aitor castors are fun, attractive knives with an interesting blade shape that come in carbon steel.
you dont hear about them much around here but eka knives from sweden are mighty nice. i have an eka swede 38 that is a sort of a swedish version of a sodbuster. they are stainless but the steel is really something else.

all the knives i talked about above have the added benefit of being relatively inexpensive. depending on what you drive you could have between one and several of them for the price of a tank of gas. lol

I carry just about any knife I feel like on any given day, and I have many to choose from. But these are my most often carried. Included are three GECs, 2 Queens and a Moore Maker. I would really recommend the Moore Maker 3⅞" stockman with 1095 blades (top left corner in stag). It is a #6301, and the same model in bone is a #5301. These come up regularly on the auctions, and go for between 50 and 75 bucks. The ones from the late '90s through the early 2000s are very high quality, with beautiful W&T and good steel.

Opinel #8 in carbon steel, Case Peanut in CV steel or Case Swayback Jack in CV steel.

I carry the Svord peasant mini. I have the plastic version, which may not be your cup of tea. You can also get wooden handles. The knife is very utilitarian, which appeals strongly to me. It also can be operated one handed, which is a rare feature in a traditional. I really like the L6 tool steel blade. It is easy to sharpen and takes a razor edge.

Here are some of my favorites that fit your requirements. Carbon steel, less than 4 blades, non-GEC:

Case Mini Trapper

Case Medium Stockman

Case Small Texas Jack

Looks like you carry a few different ones. Try a Sod Buster, and for kicks if you have any old Colonials, Imperials, or Camillus give them a try you may be surprised.
God Bless

Kind of hard to pick out particular knives I like to pocket, but to me size and bulk factor in. I like 3 1/4 inches or less closed length, 3 ounces or less weight, and rounded corners. I've carried anything from a Case peanut to a Sardinian resolza, to a number 6 Opinel to a Victorinox bantam, and been happy with them. I carry other stuff in my pockets, so a smallish knife is appreciated.

Carl.
