I have tried a lot of pots for my outdoor rambles including a plain USGI canteen cup, expensive titanium, trangia aluminum and various others. But the stainless MSR stowaway is by far my favorite, it comes with a tight lid, a handle that fastens securely across the lid so you can use the pot for storage. Most important, it is made of stainless steel which is a bit heavier but more than a bit tougher and if something sticks you can scrub it without worrying about scratching a coating off and unlike aluminum it is nonporous. If anyone is loooking for a good pot for the woods check out the stowaways IMO a great piece of kit. Chris

I got a small cheapo version of the stowaway pot (for $5 I couldn't refuse) which I intend to use for a PSK. It will fit into a canteen cover with a little room to spare.

I have one the same little stow away pots in my hunting pack, for on-trail backpacking I have a dedicated Duralight cookset. But for the more variable use of hunting I like the little steel pot better - especially if I'm going to be sticking it into fires made from lord-know-what kinds of materials or using it to scoop out a seep/dig snow/etc.

I have a Tatonka Sherpa pot which is a similar design like the MSR Stoaway, but maybe more readily available in Europe. Tight lid, handle locking over the lid for storage, stainless steel. I like it.

This one has been great. It was about $5 at Sportsmans Warehouse and has held up really well. It's just the right size for what I need.

Coffee Can..... foil...... coathanger..... all off them need to be pretreated... boiling, boiling, bake in oven with olive oil.

it is a boiling pot, oven, and crock pot

I used to like the coffee can too until I was frying some potatos in one and the bottom came loose dumping grease on the fire, damn near exploded, I bought a real pot after that. Chris

Yeah Spook I am a little pissed at you right now, payed about 20 bucks for my MSR and yours looks just as good. :grumpy: :D

Brasslite has some nice small titanium pots.

Anti Gravity Gear has a bunch too. Surf their site well for stoves and other stuff.

The Snowpeak titanium bowl makes a great pot and sells for $13-$14US. Add a wire bail and some foil for a lid.

WalMart used to carry a grease pot that was a hiker's favorite, but no longer has them. Kmart now carries one by Stanco that is $6 and 3.8oz.

A 1.7qt kitchen storage cannister from wallyworld. My coffee can stove slides into it with enough room for my scrub pad to be wrapped around it. Rather than the glass lid, I use aluminum foil, but I'm always on the look out for a metal lid that isn't too heavy. Some people might think it is heavy, but it is single steel stamping so there are no seams to fail, it's big enough to boil a full liter, thick enough that it won't get flattened easily, and it costs about six bucks. Needs a pair of pliers to lift it, but that's no biggy.

Before that, I used a grease pot. Retired after it was squashed in my trunk becuase something shifted a little violently.

This is one of the few places where I agree with ultralighters.

Ha! It really was a lucky find. I'm thinking of picking up an extra one just to have around.

Doc- Great minds think alike I guess... :D
