Favorite Custom Knifemaker

my favs are:

fixed blade: Bud Nealy - imho bud makes some of the most convenient/easy to carry fixed blades around, his MASS sheaths work great (the MCS is not the greatest though....) and i really like his designs, carry my amoeba 24/7 in the fall/winter when i can conceal it, carry sometimes in the summer also, also have a 5" M2 pesh kebz, also like it a lot, but the amoeba just carries so darned well, i love it.

folders - ernest emerson - love his designs, great craftsmanship, very hard to find though, my EDC is a spec war CQC8.

#2 in folders is pat crawford, great knives/designs/craftsmanship, and a great guy to boot.

Ed Fowler, because I share his quest for the Excalibur of knives.

Ed has this tremendous passion for making the best knife. His years of experience and willingness to share the knowledge that he has gained speak much of his character and the knives he makes.

I know one of Ed's knives would cost me an arm and a leg, plus a few toes as well. Perhaps one of these days, I will be able to buy at least one without fainting twice from financial shock. :D

Pat Crawford I love the fact that Pat does custom collaborations with martial artists such as Bob Kasper and Kelly Wordern...his execution is as good as the designs...great action, very sharp etc. etc. Pat makes my favourite knife of all time, the Kasper Fighting Folder :)

JSP/Bladerigger IMHO Piorek is a genius! I love all of his work from the full customs to the mid-techs and, of course, all of his sheath/carry systems (he makes systems for virtually every part of the body)...very innovative! James tends to use chisel grinds (my favourite) and his knives are SHARP! I am a big fan of Riggercoat for sheaths :)

RJ Martin The man knows how to sharpen! (an important criteria for me). RJ does a lot of Japanese cord-wraps, my favourite type of fixed blade.

Strider Designs tested in the field by real world operators...how can you beat that? I have a few Striders and I will admit that they come in a LUIB (like used in box) condition, but that just adds to their charm :D

Hourable mention: Phil Hartsfield. I say honourable mention only because I have never handled one in person. His designs are exactly what I like and he has a stellar reputation for making sharp knives.

Thanks Greg,
I have made contact with Wild Bill, the stage is set for a beauty sometime before the end of the year.

Looking forward to receiving the fine piece from you later this year as well.

Much appreicated. Stay sharp
