Favorite Disposable Pen?

Hmmm, a lot of recommendations for the Zebra 301. I might have to check those out.
There's a 301 Ultra now. I got a 2 pack @ Office Depot for $5. Haven't had them long enough to put them through the wringer but they look nicer.

Funny, timely topic. For years I liked Bic stick pens for EDC use and had a box of different Cross pens in my "Dress Pen" box. I eventually got tired of the smearing ink and sludgy response of the Bic pens and realized that while nice folks kept giving me Cross pens with cool Logos on them, they sucked as writing instruments.

I'm not a pen snob and I haven't got the bug yet for Ultra Premium pens, but I do have a preferance for an EDP (Every Day Pen). Ever since my first experience with roller-ball pens, I've been hooked. The few nicer pens that I carry these days (promo pens from vendors I represent) are all roller ball pens, but for the last few years what I've used in the home office and while at work are Uni-Ball Roller Deluxe pens. I always thought they were at the top of the diaposable pen list. I even took a little flak at work as the were a lot more expensive than the Bic disposables that I'd been using previously. They were worth every cent IMHO. The fine point lent clarity to my writings.

Today I found myself standing in Office Depot looking for another box of pens for personal use, which only happens every couple years. I found plenty of roller ball options, and even the Uni-Ball Roller pens in small and bulk packs, but could only find the Uni-Ball Roller Deluxe version in three packs and I wanted to buy at least a bulk pack so I wouldn't have to do this again for a few years. If I'd found the Deluxe Roller version in a bulk pack, my trip would have been done, but they were out of stock on that model. So I had to try out all the competition like the Pilot offerings. I ended up with a box of the newer Uni-Ball Roller Grip model with a .7mm tip and they seem to work quite well. They are comfortable to write with and while the .7mm tip is fatter than the .3mm tip on my old roller Deluxes, it actually seems to be more forgiving when writing. I couldn't warm up to the competition, or even the other versions of the Uni-Ball roller, the Roller Balll Grip seems to be the winner this time around for me.

There is a .5mm version of this pen called a Micro, but the .7mm Fine version seems to write really well.

Glad I'm not the only guy that thinks about this stuff.

Neat thread. I'm partial to Pilot G-2's, with fine point, black ink. They're available everywhere (I lose a lot of pens), refills are easy to find (so I don't feel like a dink for throwing away a whole pen), and unlike the Pilot V-5 (?), the tip doesn't bend if you drop it on the floor.

Cheap Bics and papermates give me hang fatigue and I hate the feeling of the pen scratch. A disposible fountain pen would be nice.

I use the Zebra 301 as a disposable or my Parker 51. Additionally, I carry a golfers pencil in my pocket, I never have to worry about it ruining my clothes, or running out of ink, and I can whittle away at it with my trusty ol boyscout knife LOL
As a side note, if those of you with fountain pens need them repaired, the single best place I know of in the USA is FountainPenHospital (www.fph.com).
They restored my P-51 and they also fixed my friends brand new waterman that was leaking right out of the box.

My favorite disposibles are the Pilot G-2 gel pens. They are all I ever buy anymore.

You beat me to it Jon, they are great. :D I bought a 15 pack at Costco for $11 something. It has a couple red and blue, the rest are black.

Besides the G-2 the pens I use the most is the Papermate PHD Multi. Perfect for my use, a black ink pen, a mechanical pencil, and a stylus for my Handspring Prism. Peter

Fountain Pen Hospital is THE place. I went there 2x (privledge of being in NYC) Need to get a Cross Mechanical Pencil fixed

Sharpie Twin Tip, R.S.V.P., and Pentel EnerGel pens are my favorite. I like the R.S.V.P. because I can easily twirl it around my fingers when I get bored in class:D . The EnerGel uses a quick-drying "liquid gel" ink so you get no more smudges. Although, the tip "exploded" on my first one. I put it to the paper and heard a small click. There were tiny ink spots on the paper and, luckily, none on me. I'm on my second one, if it does the same as the first, it's not my favorite disposable anymore:grumpy: .

The Zebra 301 is nice, especially the way it fits into my daytimer.

My current favorite is the Papermate Flexgrip ultra. Office Depot, around $6 for a dozen. Wonderful feel, smoooooth writing, and that rubbery feel to it keeps it in the side pockets of my Carhartt pants when smoother pens slide out. Love 'em.

My favorites at the moment are papermate xtend retractable and the Scripto giga. The papermate has possibly the most comfortable rubber grip that I've used and it goes all the way to the tip. The giga I like because it's a 2.0 mm and writes smoother than any pen I've ever used and it writes bold .

although I've done a fair amount of drawing with plain old Papermate stick pens (way better than the Bic stick pens). I worked at a restaurant for four years and I've worked at a school for four years now, both places pens have a tendancy to migrate. I like the G-2, good enough to write with cheap enough I wont shed any tears if a student of teacher walks off with it. I have a set of art pens with a .2 mm ( yes, point 2mm) line width but I don't write with them and I don't loan them out. Good thread.

I just found out about the papermate comfortmate... it looks and feels like a bic, just writes almost like gel!

I guess its a medium roller ball of some sort, but I like it!

Bic sticks are still what I'm carrying, but at the desk its a comfortmate from now on out...
