Since I ventured into the world of slipjoints about 6+ months ago I've started a small collection. Not too many high dollar slippies or customs except for three Gene Wisemans. I have more than the picture below but seem to gravitate to these in particular.

Here they are in order from top to bottom:
Queen/Burke small barlow
Case small copper heard
Rough Rider Damascus
Case Swayback Jack CV
Wiseman red G10 front pocket
Wiseman black G10 front pocket
Wiseman blue G10 ultra light front pocket
Scagel bone Fruitport
Case/Bose Tribal Spear

-- Top left side --
Seal modified Case Soddie Jr. CV
Moore Maker Soddie (1095)
GEC Easy Pocket in snakewood
GEC dogleg jack in primitive bone
Schrade USA 897UH Stockman
Schrade USA 834UH Stockman
Schrade USA 705UH Pen with fingernail file
Schrade USA 885UH Large Stockman

Every morning when I get ready for work I take a look at the knife pile and try to decide what to take. Anyone else have a daily EDC choice struggle to share?

I ended up with some good deals on the Schrades but have put the brakes on buying any more for a little while. I am finding a few that stand out that I am gravitating towards. I've carried high end one hand opening knives for years but this traditional thing is rather addicting!!

Wow, that's a lot of knives quickly.

i had been saving my "free" money from the budget and decided i wouldn't use it until i got really excited over something, and i was always interested in traditional knives, but i just recently got really excited about case knives. my dad always carried one, and i didn't have a case of my own, and i got really excited, so in the past 2 months i have purchused about 20 or 21 case knives. i get real excited about pocket knives, so i buy em every chance i get cuz it's something i can carry and use every day and take almost anywhere with me, i try to rotate them all in.

tom sch, that's am awesome bunch there, i'd like to know more about the red/orange looking case sodbuster.

thanks for sharing,
sam

Sam - That is a custom modification by our very own Seal. He starts with a Case Sodbuster Jr., adds new G10 handles, and does some nice filework. Does justice to an already very nice Case pattern.

that's freakin sweet, seal is a very talented fellow i must say, do you have anymore pictures of it, and what kind of steel is it???

thanks

I think traditional knives are more addicting than the modern ones because if you find a pattern you like, it's made by a bunch of different companies with a big variety of steels and scales. They are also as enjoyable to look at and handle as they are to use.

I don't have the daily struggle because I don't keep them out where I see all of them every day. When I do get in the drawer where I have them sometimes it is a hard decision because I feel bad about not using one for too long.

Lots of variety in that excellent collection! Variety does keep it interesting.

When I got bit by the traditional bug, I also amassed close to a couple of dozen knives in a short while. However, I felt guilty not giving some of those knives enough dedication so over time I weaned it down to a handful. Right now I only choose between two traditional knives for EDC. I expect that it will probably go up to four choices within the next two years. It took years to get to this small selection though.

I think your collection is off to a great start. The Queen/Burke small barlow is outstanding; i carry it frequently. Queen is doing more and more good stuff IMO. Recently acquired a Queen/Pardue whittler which I think is awesome. Never imagined the quality at such a modest price point.

Of course it is subject to change, but this Case mini copperhead is the uncontested champ of my pocket since I bought it last year:

Next most carried would probably be this Jeff Mutz canoe (avatar knife):

Then I have a pair of Case second cut antique bone knives that are right "on target" for EDC:

and the "tres amigos":

Tomsch, I really like my queen/DB small barlow but if I had your collection I'd be leaning towards the red Wiseman or the tribal spear I think.

My most carried slip joint lately is a Case/TB ebony backpocket. It has to compete with a bg42 spyderco military though.

uhh. Yeah. I forgot the whittlers.... I have 3 of Camilus' carpenter whittler pattern, 2 of them Remington R14's. ... and Silver Knights; I've got a sackful of those.

A variety of Case folders and ESEE fixed blades at the moment is what I go with for EDC. Varies upon mood and need.

Nice collection. I just picked up a wharny mini trapper for valentines day. I can't keep my amber bone cv texas jack out of my pocket right now. Thanks for the pics, I'm digging that tribal spear

I keep managing to whittle down my collection so I have fewer knives that I carry more often, but I have to say that this one finds it's way into my pocket a good bit more than others. It's the knife that I judge all my others by, and few stand up to it!

Good taste in knives Tomsch. Nice spectrum, like the GEC Dogleg and the Wharncliffe Congress a lot.

The knives I carry frequently:

CASE
Yellow Pen-knife
Slimline Trapper
Mini-Copperlock
Swayback
Medium stockman

QUEEN
Teardrop Liner lock
Teardrop QCCC
Copperhead/Liner lock hunter
Harness Jack

BÖKER
Whittler

Rough Rider
Half Whittler (single spring)

GEC
No.73 pattern, slipjoint or liner lock
No.25 EZ-Open (really like this UNXLD version)

Honourable mention: Buck 309 gets in there, a mite but powerful.RR Whittler and Copperhead. Then there are a couple of 'un-mentionables' but the Morals Police will jump on me if I breathe their names......
