Favorite Fixed blades

I'm a real fixed blade nut. Lately it's been the Anso clipped to my pocket and either the Mace Vitale utility or Burt Foster personal on my belt:

Very nice trio. What's the handle material on that Anso?

As for my favourite fixed blade: Custom Khukuri by dutch knifemaker Toni Oostendorp. (Eastvillage knives). On the picture together with one of my Sebbies.

Kind regards,

I think the Helle Futura will be my favorite fixed blade for a little while:

Cliff

Cliff, was your Futura ground off-center (looking down the spine) when you got it? I ask because my Symfoni was, but after re-grinding the bevels evenly, it now shares the favorite knife spot with my Bravo-1.

Favorite all-around knife, BRKT Bravo-1 (on top):

Sharing the #1 spot with the Bravo-1, Helle Symfoni:

That's the dreaded "Giraffe Bone" on the Anso :D.

I like that Khukuri!

tough call....depends on the purpose I would have to say, I really don't want to carry a dedicated skinner for GP work but when there is skinning to be done I wouldn't want anything but my Gerber Flayer. For general duty however I really like my Helle Fire although the Marble I re-handled with cholla is a sweetheart as well. And for sheer great looks I love my Hattori Ebony Fighter.

tough choice to have to make....I guess the pride factor gives the Marble the edge....

My EDC is a Rat Cutlery RC-3 and my new woods knife is an RC-4 tan. They are both incredible knives and I will be buying every model RC comes out with. So I gues my favorite fixed blade is any of the RC series.

My favorite fixed blade that I own is my Western Hunter with 4.25" carbon steel blade. Feels good in the hand and is about the perfect size for comfortable carry and everyday usefulness. I carry it in a leather pouch sheath that came with a Case Ridgeback fixed blade.

However, I ordered a Case Clip Point Hunter with orange G-10 scales on Friday from NewGraham. It also comes with a leather pouch sheath. We'll see on Monday if the Western stays my favorite or not.;)

My favorite? An old Jimmy Lyle (made the first "Rambo" knife) 4 inch drop point hunter w/ a jigged bone handle. Got it in the mid '80's. Over the years I've dressed out a number of deer and other game with it.

However, the one fixed bladed knife I have that gets the most use is a Cold Steel Spike. A "gift" from a friend, (he gave it to me 'cause he didn't want it anymore) its my beater.

I use it as a icepick. Which is about all it's good for.

Because of the quirky knife laws here in Califonia, I don't normally carry a fixed blade knife, as it tends to be more hassle than it is worth. But when I do carry one, I have three that I like for different reasons. For just plain hunting, I like my plain old vanilla Schrade long finger 152 (I think that is what it is called). It is reasonably sharp, stays sharp through dressing game, and was inexpensive enough that I use it often. If I am expecting to be dressing something larger than a deer, or possibly more than one large critter, I use a Russell Green River 2212. Again, because it works, holds an edge, and was cheap enough that I am willing to use it. The last knife is the one that I would carry if TSHTF. It is a Dawson hunting knife with a beautifully shaped 440C blade and green micarta handles. The problem with it is that unless it is absolutely needed, I can't bring myself to use what is essentially a work of art for something as mundane as chopping up deer and hogs. The same could be said of any of my knives by him, his niece, or her husband. They are great knives, but they are worth more to me as art than as functional knives. I will try to post pictures of some of them as soon as I figure out how to.

This one. I don't have a camera so a friend of mine took these pictures. Kinda crap...

I'll find a way to make an "official pictorial" of this knife.

What kind of material is that on the handle of the knife in the picture? Is it some sort of cactus filled with resin or something? Where do you find it?

Glad you got yours fixed up. It's a nice knife.

Cliff

Hey Cliff, which models are those?
Could you put something next to it to show their size?

I'm interested in the Helle Fjellkniven but the others on the ragweed site are also lookers.

Benchmade 155SBK, my all-aroud beater:
