What is your favorite folder under $50? I've been looking and I've seen some quality knives for under $50 and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a couple.

Although I own more Spyderco's than other brands I have never handled the Tenacious or its brothers but I do have the Ontario RAT 1 Folder and the quality of that knife is shocking. All for $30 or less!

Kershaw NRG II (a.k.a Ener-G II) sweet blade. Photos on the net make it look a lot less appealing than it is in person. Feels good in the hand, too.

Meyerco/Kirby Lambert Shockwave. Has a nice feel to it, looks good. Double thumbstuds, tip up carry, nice solid lockup.

Kershaw Cyclone. Last one I bought was under 30$ on a well known auction site. IMHO, unbeatable knife for that price - nothing else I've found in that price range (rat1, tenacious, other popular 'bargain' knives) can compare, imho.

I really like my Vic Huntsman and my KaBar Dozier Folding Hunter - got the pair for about $50...

I have to agree regarding the 1. rat 1, 2nd place has to go to Tenacious so far IMO

I'd have to say the Spyderco Resilience or Tenacious if you prefer a smaller size, both excellent blades. All mentioned above are also great examples though.

I only have a few sub 50$ knives, and two of them are keychain sized, so I'd have to say the Spyderco Persistence. It's a perfect size for EDC, it has a solid, beefy blade, and a great g-10 grip. The steel isn't fantastic, but it holds a decent edge. I've used it for light home renovation, including cutting drywall. I haven't resharpened it yet, and it's definitely not shaving sharp (as it was out of box), but it'll cut anything that needs cutting. And given the sub 30$ price, I'm not afraid to abuse it.

Best folder under $50? I can’t recommend the Spyderco Kiwi 3 enough, but the Victorinox Cadet with Alox scales would also be a great option. Maybe even a Case Sodbuster...

Looking for something bigger? The Spyderco Persistence, Tenacious and Resilience are all good choices. If blade length isn’t a huge factor, I’d say the Persistence is best of these three (your fingers might be very grateful to be spared ‘the guillotine effect’…)

For a large blade folder, the Ontario RAT 1 cannot be beat. Superior to any of the Spydercos mentioned.

I don’t have a Byrd (…yet,) but I’ve heard very good things. There’s a wide selection of Byrds to be had under the $50 mark.

Although I love my RAT 1 and Tenacious, I'd have to say the Buck Vantage Pro (large). Bos heat-treated S30V, G-10 scales, a great all-purpose blade shape, and a very effective flipper are a tough combination to beat at that price point.

I must say that it would be the JYD II. That is a big blade that is extremely beefy. they can be had for under 50 dollars, if you look. feels and is indestructible.

Ka-Bar Dozier folders,
Ontario RAT-1 folder,
Spyderco Tenacious / Persistance

All well under $50. Best knives on the market at that price point, imo.

I agree with the three listed by NothingCoherent; all excelllent knives.

But let me add an oddball: how about a Mercator? I have one and I love it. You can get it without the cat, in black or red, with a carbon steel blade. I've attached a thumb stud and a clip and it is a solid but light knife.
