favorite folders...

I'm suprised there haven't been more Spydercos in this thread! I've been a folder collector for many years, my collection is composed of mostly Spydercos and Benchmades. My favorite folders, out of everything I own, are the Spyderco Paramilitary, the Spyderco Yojimbo, and the Benchmade 940. The Paramilitary is a work of art- completely no-nonsense, completely functional, and tough as nails. Pretty much any G10- handled Spyderco is a winner, I've yet to come across one I didn't like. The Yojimbo is an excellent knife- it's a shame it's been discontinued. There are a lot of great Benchmades out there- I have a lot of them, but I've never taken a shine to any of them as much as the 940. The 940 is like a straight razor switchblade on steroids. Super fast, super well constructed, super nice. The smoothest axis-locking folder on the market.

That said, I always have a Busse with me nowadays. There are a lot of things I can do with a Busse, without worry, that I would never consider doing with a folder.

They do have a good rep for sure.

  1. Would you consider it a large, medium, small folder?
  2. Ergonomics of handle?
  3. Beefy lock?

id say medium. should be a good edc.
i like the ergos, though they are a bit narrow on the lower end.
dont remember how beefy the lock is.

My all time favorite folder would have to be a BM AFCK, it's been my constant right handed carry since released, only to share time with a BM806. Close seconds would be Reeve Sebenza and BM710HSR, which share time in my left pocket. I'll have to include my Swiss Champ as well. I've handled a lot of Striders and a couple Hinders and they are sweet but I haven't used them so I don't feel I can rank them. Emerson Commanders are pretty dang cool as well, when they first came out I ruined more then a few pairs a pants playing with those bad boys to the point that I asked for a clothing allowance, but didn't pan out.

Favorite Folders:
* BM AFCK (BM800HS) -- awesome knife, great M2 steel, nice and light IWB. It was also the first "real" knife I purchased. I gave up on EDC'ing it when I had too many close calls of the blade partially opening whenever I took off my tucked-in dress shirt.
* EDI Genesis -- nice and thin (.115"), great slicer, retired for the same reason as the AFCK.
* BM710HS -- replaced the AFCK as my EDC because of the positive AXIS lock.

For the price it's hard to beat the Griptilian. I've got the Cabelas one in D2, and the mini Ritter Grip in S30V, both great utility folders without a doubt.

Edit: I'm generally hesitant to post in threads like this one because I generally fall in love with certain characteristics of any folder I like enough to buy. I have some Spydercos that I like, but they are not in the same category as the Benchmades, which are totally different than the slipjoints I like, and my current EDC folder (small regular Sebenza) is pretty darn cool too!

I want to try a green G10 Strider SnG but better Busses keep coming up!

huh, aren't folders already broken knives :eek:

Atm i don't have any folders, maybe some day when i have spare knifedollars/euros,- (think thats gonna be the most difficult not to spend it on a busse haha) im gonna get me a sebbie i think. Looks like a sweet knife.

Until Busse puts out a folder my EDC is a Kershaw Scallion in the office and a Kershaw ZT 0400 anywhere else in the city (at least until the IWB sheath for my AD gets here). I'm not a big fan of the tanto point on the ZT but it was the right steel at the right price.

For me I carry a Spyderco Native, SAK Waiter and when possible a GW.
