Favorite genre of knife?

One Bowie shaped fixed blade. 6 inches blade give or take. Wood handle and leather sheath.

Slipjoints, lately especially SAKs and small traditionals like peanuts and baby butterbeans (which I own a total of zero :( ). The smaller the better.

Fixed blades, only puukkos. That's a cultural heritage thingy, I guess.

ah, cool question. I've liked 'em all as a favorite, at one time or another. However, my favorite genre seems to revolve around whatever I use a knife for most. For instance, if I'm getting out to the wilderness frequently, my fav. is definitely large, fixed-blade knives for survival and bushcraft purposes. Around town, my fav. has been morphing into small, EDC fixed blades, with a blade length around 3.5", handle around 4".

As a whole, my favorite knife type is fixed blades. Kinda ironic that my current EDC is a folder  :)

That would be folders( I'm not allowed to carry fixed blades over here) with a fully serrated blade. Preferably (modified) sheepfoot or warncliff. G10 double linered handles.

Fixed blade, because I live in Canada.

so do i, but i dont see how this makes a difference :)
pretty much anything can be confiscated in an urban environment in canada, be it fixed blade or folder, but this is always at the officer's discretion (and personal interpretation of the law) and highly dependant on the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the knife on your person.

dont dress like a thug, dont threaten anyone, dont get in a fight, dont be drunk and disorderly, etc and you can pretty much carry anything you like as long as you state that it is a 'tool' and not a 'weapon' or for 'self-defense', hardly any policeman will confiscate it. if you are drunk and give them attitude you could have a neck knife with a 1.5" blade and theyll still confiscate it from you.

that said in an urban environment my favorite style of knife is a simple but effective 'tactical' style folder.
in a rural environment, definitely a large heavy fixed blade that i can chop/baton wood with if the need arises.

So the question is--what is your favorite genre of knife?
Right now it's keris. You could spend a lifetime learning about them.

Smallish, production tactical folders are what I buy most of though.

My favorite are medium sized bowies; 6-8". I'm also fond of hunters and small bowies ~4".

Dark Ops... perfect for my covert ultra-tactical deanimation operations.

Actually i pretty much just carry my 110 now. So traditional lockbacks would be it for me i suppose. That or mid-size all steel folders (see Spyderco).

I always carry a sak of some sort, no matter what else I have in my pocket. But I have always had a soft spot for lower class working folders with carbon blades like Opinels, Okapi's, Douk-douk, Eka, sodbusters, and old carbon and horn navajas.
