Right now it's the GG&G Battlehawk. It's 44oz of S7 with G-10 scales, quite heavy, but delivers a mean punch. I say punch, cause it's more a pointy hammer, with a spike. I've been "working out" with it, "sparring" with a swinging fence post. I can do this exercise with a much lighter hawk, but never get the same burn in my arms.

Soon, I'll be able to answer this question with this...Winkler-Sayoc Rnd in black micarta...

I haven't tried every hawk, by any means, but for a full tang, one piece fighting hawk, I don't know that there is any better.
Maybe an RMJ and a nice tradtional sytle hawk will be in my future as well, but the Sayoc may always be my favorite.

WOW! that GG&G looks BADASS! I'd rather get shot than beaten to death with the :( Winkler-Sayoc Thats a pretty interesting looking knife next to the GG&G what is it?

My Coal Creek Forge Toma-Axe

Man, that is really sweet. I bought a Coal Creek from him on an ebay auction five years ago. Just as I transferred from St Louis to Indianapolis, the fine gentleman from CCF invited me to come by and experience the forging of one of his 'hawks. I don't live a life of regret, but not having that opportunity before I moved is definitely one of them.

MrTroubleSnake, that knife is from TOPS, it's the Pry-Knife, it's 1/4" thick chisel ground 5160.

I know what you mean about the Sayoc, I think it was designed to cause serious pain.

ThEvilMike, that's a sweet CCF! The handle looks pretty long, what is it 25" or so? Nevermind, I saw your original post, 24" long.

I like my Ron LaClair Shrew Hawk pretty well. It sharpens well and is light enough that I can actually carry it around from time to time.

Beckerhead #42

Ft Turner Buck. Nice wide curved cutting edge, which I've come to find very useful out in the woods. It's light, quick, and cuts very well.

My favorite is my Warhawk model, one of which was shown in the first post. Here are a few that were made in the last year or so in various styles and haft material.

Does anybody here EDC their "Hawk? Cuhz imagine, when a would-be robber or some low life assface tries some stuff and you pull out a "hawk!:D

I live my JKKnives belt hawk. Heavy enough to do serious work, but light enough to toss in a pack without worries. Full tang construction means it's tough enough for whatever I can throw it's way.

John, your work and photos are amazing. Is that haft on the second one from the bottom black locust?

Not a hawk but my favourite of all the things I have made.
Black Walnut, brass tacks, sawmill blade steel. about 30 inches long.
Best regards

Robin

I edc my hawk pretty much every day, from my house to my throwing tree. ;-)) No bad guys up here in the boonies though.

Robin

Thanks for the compliment grafton! The haft in the first photo is musical instrument grade curly claro walnut, next is weathered barn oak, and the last is curly maple.
