Favorite 'Hawk!

Since Edwood busted the cherry on these, I'll play. My favorite is the Winkler Damascus Battle Axe, but I like the Boarding Axe as well. Sorry for the crappy pics.

This is my most recent acquisition. 2Hawks Military Voyager (Warbeast with out the sharpened 3 edges). Back in the day when they first came out, I had one of ATC's (not CS) Lagana Hawks with a Survival Sheath shoulder rig. I regretfully ended up selling it. Since then I always wanted a quality survival/combat/camp do all type hawk. This filled my wants. Very well made. We shall see how it holds up over the long haul. Here it is with a bit of kit.

I have a love/hate relationship with this thread. All these awesome hawks that I can't afford, I love to see them, but hate that I can't afford all of them! Of course I don't need all of them, but that's beside the point.

With a name like JollyRoger, I thought you would have the Winkler Boarding axe!;) That is a nice looking 2hawks, how does the paracord not slide off? Is it just tight, or did you use some other glue or ...do I see a second hole?

Foxx,

The 550 cord under the head was added by me as a fail safe and gripping surface. It was tightly wrapped and a bit of Gorilla glue was added to keep it tight. The handle wrap was done by the maker. It is wrapped tight and secured between the two holes top and bottom. I like design of having the lanyard out of th top hole. Retention is excellent. It is also versitle in that access to choking up on the head (that sounds gay) can still happen by just a twist of the wrist.

Mr. Winkler's axes are top shelf no doubt. If I ever go back to the middle east I would most likely take one with me.

Edited to add: 376- That Winkler Damascus Battle Axe is pure F-ing MAGIC.

Jolly Roger--thanks m8! I'm digging your hawk and like your gear, I'm a big fan of 1911's and Emerson. I'm with Foxx, when I saw the name I was expecting some Squid gear like a boarding axe too! I see that you didn't exchange all your "local" currency in. If you're hanging on to them in hopes of returning and seeing the sights of the lovely Middle East again, I'd recommend you take a Winkler :) not sayin your hawk isn't good to go, but I just have that much confidence in Mr. Winkler's gear.

Damn Jolly Roger you beat to it:grumpy:;) I too love my 2Hawks Warbeast though mine has all 3 sides sharpened. Its so light yet powerful. Devin makes a mean hawk.
Sorry for the sh!#ty pic

376- Thanks. Yes, if I ever went back, I would take one of those smaller concealment hawks by Winkler. I think that size would be the heat for vehicle work. As far as Squid affiliation, negative. Much respect goes out.

Mike- that's a nice Warbeast.

mike that lttle mora just wont do haha:D im jk bro but anyon try the smith and wesson extraction and evasion hawk? i know most of there stuff sucks but it looks pretty legit 3/8" thick and 1070 carbon steel? i think im gonna pick one up

Mc5aw has one of those S&W's. Maybe he'll be over here to answer that. I bet it's heavy, but powerful. I know my GG&G is 3/8" thick about 14" long, and that sucker packs a serious punch, a 44oz punch. It will smash everything it hits, not cut, but smash. I wonder about the edge of the S&W, does it cut?

The S&W is manufactured in Taiwan by Taylor Brands. It is basically a slab of steel with a hawk edge and a spike ... no frills, and nothing fancy. The hawk blade comes to a nasty point at the bottom, which would facilitate hooking and grabbing, although there is no other sharpened edge besides the actual hawk blade. The spike looks to be impervious to any/everything ... it has no sharpened edges, so it's primarily designed for puncturing, breaking, or simply bashing through whatever it hits. The only negative I can report is that the four holes drilled to fix the rubber handle scales were slightly misaligned in the tang. This caused the grip scales to overhang by about 1/16". Not much, but enough to be uncomfortable to hold. I am replacing the rubber with paracord, and single/double hand gripping is much improved. I have not taken the S&W out yet and run it through the test course, but it feels and looks very durable and business oriented. It isn't a finesse axe by any means, and it will probably bludgeon more than chop, but the factory edge appears sharp enough to fell modest saplings and perform general fieldcraft chores. Weight is on par with what one would expect. Actually, it feels a tad lighter than my RD Hawk. I shopped around and found it for $65 delivered, so it's an excellent bang for the buck IMO. It would make a very cost effective breaching or truck tool, one that you wouldn't worry about scarring or damaging.

good stuff it sounds to be good for the money haha as soon as i saw grivory handles i thought in my head it deserved a nice paracor wrap and maybe a few minor modifications you think it would turn out ok with a hammer poll? or just leave the spike?

Yeah that S&W Hawk is a beast. Its a solid, heavy as f@#k piece of steel meant to do some serious damage, provided your arm doesn't go limp after the first two swings.;) For only like $30 bucks or whatever it costs, it is a good deal, same goes for their khukris. The Bush Hog is a nice piece. For what they cost S&W makes decent stuff.

Did some still-hunting / scouting today and took the LaClair Shrewhawk along for the walk.
