Favorite HI Kami(s)

I wish i could help put names to faces, but i don't know all the kamis by face.
Unfortunately Aunties old picture host went out of business and the one she had in the meantime was a crook, so many pictures were lost and is the reason why you see many red X's. She now uses photobucket.

Tirtha.
My 20" 20oz Siru almost looks machine made the blade it is so straight.
but you can see the hammer work, and scroll work and see it is handmade.
nice hardness line revealed by the patina too.
LOVE IT.
Same for my Farmkata too. some of the best fuller work i have seen. Looks like it was made on a press. till you look really close.
hammer marks.

fantastic.

I don't really think HI blades cut at all.
Stuff just gets out of the way in respect.

He is "The Royal Kami". The last Kami to ever make Khukuri for The King.
He did so for many years until the Royal family was deposed and went into exile.
Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma is his given name. At Birghorka he is called "Bura"... Nepali for "old man."
He was our shop foreman and most loyal friend and kami until his third stroke made him unable to pound steel.
He no longer makes khukuri himself. Khukuri made by him are fine pieces and command a premium, as they likely will never be seen again, nor will there ever be another royal kami.
The Royal Kami?
I have heard these statements are impossible. That is that Bura (Lal Bahadur Bishwakarma) was a Royal Kami for the King and Royal family of Nepal. I am not trying to start argument but when I first started to buy Himalayan Imports Kukris I mentioned this to other people and they unanimously said there was no way this could be.
It was said, "he (Bura) never was and there hasn't been one in living memory" and "in past what actually happened was that if a Shah or a Rana wanted a kukri made, a subordinate would deal with it by going to the best kami in the Nepalese army, and have one made to the Shah or Rana' requirements, so no need for a 'Royal Kami'."

I mean no offense but if this is true it should be fairly well documented. Could you Karda provide some links or where we can find the proof that Bura made Kukris for the Shah or Rana. So that if I state this as fact I can back it up without debate. Plus I want to know without doubt too.

Why would you bring this sort of thing to our forum?

I doubt that Auntie, Kami Sherpa or Uncle Bill would spread falsehoods about such a matter.
I have an idea of where/whom you are getting your misinformation from and he is well noted for spreading misinformation as it suits him, especially in areas where he is less than as knowledgeable as he purports himself to be. Many have/had forgiven him for his transgressions here and i had thought we had all put pettiness behind us. Now that i've perused the thread in question i can see, that one of us has not and hasnt changed from his old tactics one bit. Perhaps it would do you well to search his username on this forum in the archives and on the historical research site to see just what kind of person you are dealing with.

Aside from the documentation on our website and forum. There may be other proof in Nepal.
Kami Sherpa and crew have been dealing with every kami, good or bad for the last 25 years or so. He has lived there all his life and if anyone would know the truth of the matter it would be him. Pala is well known for his honesty and good dealings, as is Uncle and Auntie. I have no reason in the world to doubt them or their claims. Too bad that cannot be said of the person whom you are getting this information from. Truth be told...if a royal wanted a khukuri made, an arsenal kami would not be a likely choice when the entire land is filled with enough suitable kamis whom would be up to the task and consider such business an honor.

Karda you bought up Bura as a Royal Kami and as I said I am not trying to offend you Auntie, Kami Sherpa, Pala or anyones honor but I would like solid evidence to the fact that Bura was a Royal Kami. Who better to ask since it is being covered here. No one's behind this and it isn't something designed to embarrass Himalayan Imports (HI). What I'm doing is being fair to HI and others that do not believe this by trying to put out the truth so there is no question.

I have never found any information outside of Himalayan Imports' site and it's supporters concerning Bura making Kukri for the Nepali Royals.

I am not calling anyone a lier and I don't want this to get out of hand. So I will end the discussion hopefully on a good note saying it doesn't matter in the end if he was or was not a Royal Kami. God knows. I was just asking at the source to settle the matter for myself and others.

The truth of the matter is that there may well be no verifiable proof other than what is said here on our forum and website.
The Royals, other than the one tasked with contracting such a matter, may well not even know who Bura is.
The Title "Royal Kami" may not even be an official title as far as the royals are concerned, but i can tell you that in the realm of bishwakarma it is a real title and an honor for one to be able to claim such.
Much dealing in nepal are done without any official documentation. Payment is made and work delivered.
I've read the thread in question on the other site, and it sure looked pretty much like someone was doing their best to again besmirch the good name of someone whom is no longer here to speak for himself and to call into question the integrity of a competitor. This isnt the first time he's done so.
Let others believe what they wish to believe, i choose to believe those whom have shown outstanding integrity.

Thank you Karda by showing grace and heart in explaining your belief on this matter.

No problem, sweetcostarica.
Just so we are clear on the matter, i am not one of those whom have forgiven this person. His antics and ego are such that i will not.
Perhaps rather than call out a man whom is no longer here to dispute the matter, your friend would be better advised to check his own self acclaimed "expert" title and focus on those things rather than trying to garner sales by the disparaging of competitors.

Just reading the thread that he and sweetcostarica posted in on his board makes that plain to me.
