Favorite Khukuri and Why?

16" AK blem I got from Bill when he first went online in the late '90's. It's the only one I've actually used a lot :). Duct taped handle (after expoxy for splits), rough blade ("straightened folds"), some kind of patina (or stains), etc., etc. I still sharpen it up & hit the yard with it every spring.
Probably the best "all around" large work knife I've ever owned.

My favorite is my 18" WWII by Vim Kami. It's also my first khukri and the only one I have at the moment but it's certainly not the last. I haven't had a chance to cut with it yet but I can just feel the power behind this blade. I plan on going over to a friend's this weekend and help him and his grandfather trim some branches with my new toy so I'll be able to test it a little.

My all around total favorite is the 17"-18" Foxy Folly that I hope to be able to use again one day... Not only does/did it do everything I require/required of it, this size of the Foxy Folly is to me the epitome of what a *Real* khukuri oughta look like! :D
It's no doubt a really good thing on Himalayan Imports behalf that the Foxy Folly Design hadn't been conceived when I first started here
or I probably wouldn't have bought all of the HI Khukuri's that I did looking for the ultimate khukuri... The YCS probably wouldn't have been designed and made either... ;) :o :p ;)

Well Yvsa, I am glad you designed the YCS!! It is still my favorite.
In my picture are six of my favorite khukuris. Far left is a Berk Special, Next is my second favorite khuk a mid-generation Foxy Folly. It was one of two that came in when the search for the 17" 24 oz FF was well underway. This one came in at 21 9/16" and 28 oz! It is incredable in every way and it would be my choice if I was searching for a large fighter khuk because it is fast and hits very hard.
Next one in line is one of the early FF attempts, 20 1/2" 52oz! It is a beast to say the least. It is also the only HI product I have ever gotten that is totally sterile, not a marking on it, which I feel makes it especially cool.
Then comes Yvsas favorite, the 17" FF. Next a later model chiruwa YCS, a little heavy but nice, and lastly my Sanu YCS. My dream is to someday find where the horn handled YCS ended up. I would love that baby! It always called to me, but alas was not to be. Well there are some of my favorites all lined up pretty!

My favorite is my 17 3/4" WW II Chiruwa Satisal by Bura.
It is an extension of my arm like no other. I chop, limb and trim trees, bushes, vines and tall grasses. It has prepped roasts, sliced veggies and filleted fish, stirred a pot flip pancakes and processed game. I customized the handle, removed the ring and wasp waisted the shape and rounded the upper point of the pommel. I can chop all day without gloves and there are no hotspots.

In the khukstump there is an 18" CAK that is much heavier, I like it, yet it will fatigue my arm after using it all day. The 12" and 15" AK's are great to have and weigh nothing, chop well, yet I really like the 17-18" length. I have an 18" WWII (the one right under my 17 3/4" in pic),with a possum tang that is the companion to my favorite, yet the balance forward is different and only feels good in my left hand.

My second favorite is my 12" Pen knife, it's almost as if it's weightless and yet the belly is viscious on cutting meat.

My wife's favorite is her 12" AK by Bura, she has built a few hundred feet of fencing around the property from very hard driftwood, that's a lot of chopping and she's dead on:)
My oldest daughter uses her 18" Kobra by Bura to get up in the trees with me to take out strangler vines and poisen Ivy in season, she loves the speed and weight of this. My youngest daughter's favorite is her 15" Sirupati, she does a lot of good work with it. De-vining, cutting wild grapes, cattails and carries it on all of our woods walks:).

Have a good time and be safe:D
