Hello all, I am in desperate need of some help and I’m REALLY hoping someone can assist me…. PLEASE!
Let me start by asking, do you have a favorite pocket knife? I do. How would you feel if it went missing? Not sure about you, but I feel like I’m not completely dressed leaving the house without it.
I have a number of Benchmade, Spiderco, Smith & Wesson, etc. pocket knives, but by far, my favorite pocket knife is one that I purchased at Daytona Beach Bike Week 8 or 9 years ago from one of the million vendors set up there. It’s most likely some Chinese made “cheapo”, but this knife is rugged and holds an edge like no other knife I’ve ever owned. This pocket knife first got my interest when I saw (or better yet DIDN’T see) the locking mechanism of the knife. The vendor suckered me in pretty well because he saw me eyeing the knife and he told me if I could get it open I could have it… free of charge. Challenge accepted. I fiddled with this dang knife for about 5 minutes and after deciding I had no idea what the trick was I handed it to him and said, “Show me, I’ll buy it”. He took it out of my hand and as fast as he could get his hands on it the blade sprang out to the open and locked position. I didn’t see him do anything fancy… for that matter I didn’t see him do anything at all. It was like the knife just opened. Then, just as easily as he opened it, he closed it. He then showed me the “trick” to opening it, I handed over $25 or something like that, and that has been my favorite pocket knife from that day forward. The dang thing was like a unicorn. It had a SS, non-serrated blade, and for as long as I’ve had it I’ve maybe had to refresh the edge two or three times. Like I said, I’ve got a LOT of pocket knives, most of them substantially more expensive than this one, but none hold a candle to this one. It is by far my favorite pocket knife I’ve ever owned…. Yesterday it went missing.
The knife is just a simple looking pocket knife, but the way it locks and opens is like no other knife I’ve ever seen, and I haven’t been able to find anything like it after searching the internet from one side to the other. On the handle, toward the butt of the knife, on one side there is a small oval machined into the handle which an allen head screw goes through. That screw and another screw at the blade pivot point are what hold the knife halves together. It is a spring assist knife, and the way it opens is you articulate butt of the knife halves near the butt of the knife where the machined oval slot is (the left side slides maybe 1/8” downward). That unlocks the blade and it springs to the open position. When you let the handle come back to rest the blade is open and locked. To unlock it you articulate the two sides of the knife toward the butt again, it unlocks, and you can fold the blade back in. This articulating motion is accomplished very simply and discreetly with the palm of your hand while holding onto the handle. I really don’t know how else to describe it.
I know that I’m not an artist, and unfortunately I don’t have any family pictures with it, but here is the best drawing I could come up with. If anyone has any idea where or how I could find a replacement I would be extremely grateful for your help. Thank you very much!
If the picture doesn't show please let me know how to post a picture. I'm not familiar with posting pics in the format required by this forum. Thank you.
