What good is an hierloom knife if it is all rusted/pitted/scales falling off from age and hard use , especially in today's iPod society.
I think a lot of kids would not touch something like that with a ten foot pole , things are not the same as they were.
Everything is based upon looks now. Not condoning it , just stating the facts.
I wonder how many awesome knives were destroyed because they were left out in a shop to rust and decay , or sit in the bottom of a Cedar chest because they are too "ugly" to be a "showpiece".
Myself , it would not bother me to inhereit an older , obviously well used knife (as I have several) , in the same vein it does not bother me to restore a knife so that it's beauty and workmanship can still be realized.
