What do you think: is your favorite knife the same as the one you use most often, or not? If not, why?

My favorite knife is a Randall model 15 with tool steel and upward curved guard. I carry it daily and use it for most knife chores. The 5 year old blaze orange Benchmade griptilian takes care of the finer tasks. Most of my other knives just take up space in display cases and the dark corners of my wardrobe cabinet.

Favorite is BM 950 rift & BM Bugout, using mostly is BM Bugout, 950 & Ruike 801.

Hmm.. My most carried is a mini Ritter. My most beloved is my CruWear/Carbon Fiber Manix 2. The main reason my Ritter is carried more often is because I love the size of it. If they shorted up my Manix to about the same size, I’d be in heaven, haha.

I should add that I’m leaving the traditionals I carry out. Too tough to choose between. I switch between them on a daily basis just depending on how I feel that day.

One of my favorites is my GEC Bullnose but I don't use it much because I am not a fan of 01 steel. I can't beat on it at work without doing some major damage to the blade and I can't hose the thing out when I'm done to clean it up and do a quick wipe down and call it a day. It will rust in no time if I did. Every other steel I've used in this job has held up well enough to meet or exceed my expectations but this one hasn't sadly.

My most used is a Kabar Dozier, used and abused so much it's missing 1/8th inch of the blade I've had to sharpen it so much over the last few years to repair the blade or just plain resharpen it. The handle is worn down to the point where it's not as grippy as before and the DLC coating is chipped badly. It's a night and day difference between mine and a new one I just held. The reason why I used this one so much is because it's practical, on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 10. Grippy handle, never rusted on me, I can hose it out to clean (no washers to lube), can easily take a sharp edge and hold it long enough, comfy to hold, and it feels like a tool meant to used and abused not cherished or babied.

my favorite & my most used are definitely not the same. by far my favorite knife is my benchmade 810. love the blade shape, that giant slab of m4, & the handle is super comfortable for me, even for extended use, and it locks the hand in tight. i don’t even mind the excessive jimping, doesn’t seem to bother me.
i work at a school though and it’d be a bad thing if i were to use the 810 to break down boxes & such. just a wee bit of overkill. so i use a bm 490 at work. it’s a little less intimidating.

Most used is the SAK huntsman I've been carrying daily for about three weeks. I use the knife on a daily basis for something. Not sure if it's my favorite as I've some I like a lot but use only seldom.

I would say yes. My most carried for a while has been the Sage 5. There's not much I don't like about it. I don't know if it's my most favorite but definitely top 5

No, I've got a pair of CRK's that I bought for one reason only, for collection pieces. I've got enough users to let me know how well they perform.

Favorite is a Camillus / Fisk OVB Bowie.

Most used is the BM Bugout.

Reason being I find the folder far more practical to carry and use every day.

That's a heck of a question.
I'm still getting new knives fairly often and so not carrying the favorites much.
This year it was a few Case Trappers and my first Rat 1 in D2 (my first D2).

I have a few favorites for different reasons. Favorite lock or Favorite lock for winter, the Axis lock (due to taped fingers) which is different from my over all fave lock which is the compression lock.
My favorite knife(knives) is a liner lock invariably so you see where this is going.
Favorite steel doesn't come in my favorite knife.

So no I don't carry my favorite knives much but it is a vacation or feels like coming home when I do.

Some times I need / want to carry my favorite steel (M4) which happens to have my favorite lock so that's a good time.

Some times I carry my favorite (ergonomically / over all) and forgo the top of the list steel and lock. That would be my Ti Lite IV in CTS-XHP full flat ground.

At home today I was carrying and using my latest knife (see how it kicked my favorite out) I needed to cut the end off an old spray tube that goes on my WD-40 Spray can. The tube was clogged up on the end. The tube set in a cup for about a decade. I don't use WD-40 at home much except to clean off goo / as a quick solvent. At home I mostly just use light machine oil for lube (that bottle has it's own thin application tube).

So I used the Case Trapper to cut off the end of the red tube so I could blow the WD into a hard to get at spot.

My most used and favourite is my ESEE6. Unfortunately I only use it during camping season. Every weekend from May to Oct then it goes away.

Beyond that, my Griptilian gets carried a lot.

From the release of the ZT 0562 until about March of this year, that was my favorite knife. I carried it and used it about 5-6 days/week during that time.

Currently, my favorites are actually quite different. An Olamic Wayfarer 247 and a Kizer Ursa Minor. Those are settling in to hog pocket time. I’ll be trying a One Knife November with the 247.

Some of my least favorites are my most carried...which makes them sort of my favorites?!? o_O
Now I’m confused too, but here’s the deal:

I have a BM 940-2 that’s kind of a qc turd, which obviously turns me off. It’s always out and easy to grab, because why worry about putting it away in the safe, right? So, by default, I’m always throwing it into my pocket when I need something on the go that doesn’t take up much space...and I don’t want to worry about screwing up or losing one of my “favorites.”

“Hmmm, I can’t decide which one of my cherished lovelies to take today...well, I’ll just grab the ugly duck and call it good.”

I’ve come to notice it’s in my pocket quite a lot these days. That and my old AUS-8 SOG Zoom-Mini too. They carry great and always get the job done, even if there’s not much pride of ownership involved. I guess that means I like them. It’s one of the reasons my knife purchases have nearly stopped. Why drop more cash on something if I’m just going to gravitate back to old beaters that I like but simultaneously don’t really care that much about to begin with?

I’m confused. Maybe a bit deranged. But there it is. o_O

My most carried knife is probably my work knife. Kershaw Blackout at the moment.
My favorite knife is the 940-1 which I carry quite often when not at work.

For me... Most used (at home, opening mail and packages, cutting up boxes for the trash, etc) = Delica. Favorites = ZT 0452, Olamic 247 and CRK Sebenza. They get carried around but see almost no actual use.
