Favorite knife = most used knife?

My Bradford Guardian 3 in SG2 makes everything feel like a breeze, it just super convenient for what I do.

Favorite is my Ontario SP5. Big honking blade. Thick enough to baton well. Takes an edge easy and keeps it well enough. Light enough to take down brush and landscape for extended periods.... And in my fantasy world it's the ultimate all purpose, zombie killing, self defense, survival tool.

My most used is my sak Spartan. Goes everywhere, super useful, and way more practical than my SP5.

What do you think: is your favorite knife the same as the one you use most often, or not? If not, why?

Yes.......and no......haha. The Spyderco Manix 2 is my favorite knife, but the sprint run I just got is not my most used. I use my BDZ-1 steel versions more, just because I want to keep it in good condition.

this little guy is my favorite. I just hand made laminated Japanese steel. the best part it is made right here where I live. but it is a bit small so I got the ck when I need more. its the second fav. I love the blade shame easy to sharpen with a nice tip for packages and such. of course it is the harder shame to find.

Probably this zdp189 stretch lightweight. I had Big Chris regrind it into what is basically a scalpel and unfortunately the tip broke off when I dropped it the other day. Luckily we live in the same city so I dropped by and he fixed it up into kind of a sheepsfoot deal in like 2 minutes on his badass new grinder. It’s handy having a master knifemaker nearby.

I’ve a manual folder from Aldi’s. Until I figure out my next one, it’ll do. It’s my go to, the first thing I grab to open or cut anything. I believe it’s called Workzone or something.

My favorite knife to use at the moment is my Bradford Guardian 4. It’s just got an awesome handle and the FFG makes it cut better than a knife that thick really should. Unfortunately I can’t carry it much due to the size.

My most carried knife used to be a Benchmade 5500. Now I rotate through a handful of different knives. I guess lately I’ve carried my BBS PM2 more than anything else.

To me it is like what is my favorite car and then what do I drive on a daily basis. Not that I own a luxury car, (although I have been really enjoying Jay Leno's Garage on Netflix), I drive my Tundra to work and around town, very practical and still has good looks and coolness factor. That coolness factor is completely non threatening compared to below. So I would say no to your question.

I would say my favorite knife is my ML knives Hudson Bay knife, but my EDC usually is between my Swiss Army Alox Pioneer, Opinel Stainless #6, or my Orange Manly Wasp in Sandvik 12c27. I would get very funny looks from my coworkers if I used the favorite. But in a camp ground, no one would bat an eye if used properly and not trying to look cool by wielding it like a sword. People tend to think you are crazy and call the cops. Keep the answers coming, enjoy reading he comments.

My favorite right now is my recently acquired BMK 940-1. I put off getting one for so long but I'm really glad i finally caved. There is just something about it, something that I just cannot put my finger on. My most used is probably that or either my GB or GB2. They are just so comfortable in hand and I cannot get enough of the M4.

I don't think I have one favorite knife. I have multiple favorites across the spectrum of chores. In short, I fret over what knife I'm going to carry the way my wife decides on shoes:D

I have a favorite heavy use fixed blade, a favorite beater, a favorite sentimental knife, favorite engineering feat, etc.

However, if you Venn those all together, oddly enough, my "favorite" favorite from an appreciation/carry/sentimental/actual use is my GEC Beer Scout. It's a 2nd, so not "perfect" from the get go. From pocket carry and use the blade has a deep patina. It'll never be pristine again, but prefer it with a used look. I love the walk and talk, how it's a step up in quality over a Case. The cap lifter/screwdriver has taken the brunt of a lot of abuse that has kept the main blade in great shape. Finally, it was a father's day gift a couple of years ago.

I would say due to its size and utility (and my preference for non-twist off beer), I've carried it more than any other knife (sometimes on accident).

My favorite knife is my Helle Dokka. But I work in NYC, so carrying it daily is not legally possible (if it was, I most certainly would). My other go to knife, a Kershaw Leek, is most certainly out of the EDC rotation for the same reason. I had been carrying my Opinel 7 or 8 (probably a legal grey area at best due to the locking collar), but have opted for the Svörd Mini Peasant, which I recently acquired.
But it all sorta works out. I carry the Dokka or the Leek or the Opinels while doing the things I love to do in places I love to be. I carry the expendable blades to do the work in places I would rather not be and where having my favorite blades with me would be frowned upon. I enjoy all of the knives I own and would hate to have any of them taken from me but if I had to lose one, the Svörd would hurt the least.

Right now out of the few I have left at the moment are a native 5 lightweight and a case medium stockman in cv.
Today I have the native 5 and a sak electrician which is very useful. I have found after I sold most of my knifes due to needing money , I think I may only need a couple more folders and stockman . I also carry a buck 301 very often.

One of my favorites is my GEC Bullnose but I don't use it much because I am not a fan of 01 steel. I can't beat on it at work without doing some major damage to the blade and I can't hose the thing out when I'm done to clean it up and do a quick wipe down and call it a day. It will rust in no time if I did. Every other steel I've used in this job has held up well enough to meet or exceed my expectations but this one hasn't sadly.

My most used is a Kabar Dozier, used and abused so much it's missing 1/8th inch of the blade I've had to sharpen it so much over the last few years to repair the blade or just plain resharpen it. The handle is worn down to the point where it's not as grippy as before and the DLC coating is chipped badly. It's a night and day difference between mine and a new one I just held. The reason why I used this one so much is because it's practical, on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a 10. Grippy handle, never rusted on me, I can hose it out to clean (no washers to lube), can easily take a sharp edge and hold it long enough, comfy to hold, and it feels like a tool meant to used and abused not cherished or babied.

The Dozier is probably my favorite beater blade for all the reasons you mentioned. It's also the one I recommend to anyone who is getting into pocket knives or just wants a budget beater.

Yeah, more or less.
I've got my Kershaw Emerson CQC7K permanently placed in my work pants, and I love that knife.

My other favorite is the Mini Crooked River, which I don't carry half as often as I should. Mainly a hiking-knife, and hiking season is over.

I usually pair a modern and a traditional. A Buck 110 or 112 of some kind is almost always with me and lately it's been a mini grip with a sheepsfoot. The mini grip always seems to find it's way in my pocket. Even when I carry something else, it ends up in the lunch bag and comes to work anyway.

My favourite is my Cold Steel Code 4 spear-point in CTS-XHP. I've carried it daily but I'd changed my job since then and rarely got the chance to use it. Hence, the rest of my knives which I rotate for use within and around the home are used more. (I occasionally carry these as secondary knives but lately I've restricted my knife-carry to just the Code 4 just to increase its usage).

With my previous job, my favourites went from an Ontario RAT Model 1 to a Spyderco Endura 4, I carried them and indeed used them the most.

Koenig Arius CF...No

There is more time spent carry other knives to see if they compare to the arius...so I guess that's kind of a strange paradox for me being that I consider the Arius to be the ultimate 'everydaycarry.'
