Favorite knife related lubricants

I use Break Free on my guns and knives. I have for about 12 years. No problems with it so far.

Avoid oil unless absolutely necessary. If this is the case, just about any oil is suitable.

At work I blow them out with compressed air and oil with hydraulic oil. At home my lungs and some Lionel model train oil. The model train oil has real sticky consistency that I like, as it tends to stay right where you put it. Used to use graphite but the mess got to me after a while.

Breakfree CLP for over twenty years and lately been trying out ATF. ATF was apparently introduced in an attempt to replace whale oil, which used to be considered the finest oil known. It seems to stay on, lube, and doesn't evaporate into a goo or varnish. Try some, it's cheap.

Tri-Flow is great stuff, but use it sparingly. Boesheild T9 is better. Militec is 'teh win' ;)

After using militec on my mountain bike chain I am totally sold. Did the three-step treatment, and thats it. I've put about 100 miles on and off road (over three mounts, including a frame warranty sobatical) on it, its a little noisier than it was at first, but moves completely freely, shows no signs of corrosion, and the best part, when it starts to look a little dirty, I just wipe it with a dry rag. BAM, back to NEW!

I use militec on all my metal-metal knives now (eg. D4), but T9 is my go-to for metal-composite knives (eg. Native S30V). T9 is great stuff, and a helluva corrosion barrier (the Native is my jogging knife, goes IWB and gets sweaty every time).

I finally got my hands on some LUBRILON and it works like I remember Slick 50 working. Smells pretty funky but it just put the kick back in a Buck auto I've had for several years. No long term results yet but it's looking good. (Not for food prep blades.)

Tri-Flow if your not taking the knife apart. Militec if you are. I think both are great.

Shoot 'em an email. They hooked me up with a free sample pack; 1/2 oz of their oil and 1/2 oz of their grease! Oil has worked great on my D4 and a couple SAK's, as well as a Sram PC-991 9spd mountain bike chain.

Still waiting for a purpose to find the grease, though.

I use whatever I've got lying around. Lately that's been Boeshield T9. It takes a few hours to dry after application, but it's super slick once it does. It also seems a lot easier to clean off after a few months than other wax lubes like White Lightning.
