Favorite knife to fiddle with

Besides the obvious cutting performance and aesthetic value, what are your favorite knives to open/close and generally mess around with when not actually cutting with them.

For example, I am relately new to folders for edc and have tried a few. I just got my first paramilitary 2 and have found a lot of enjoyment out of practicing opening with the spydie flick, using the thumb for fast and slow openings, and the compression lock to close.

I have a job where I have a lot of opportunity to have a knife out and not bother anyone.

I have a manix 2 I am selling because I just found myself reaching for the pm 2 all the tine. Both were exceptionally functional, but the pm2 was more enjoyable to fiddle.

My experience has been limited to benchmade and spyderco. What are some other knives that are extremely satisfying to practice opening and closing in a multitude of ways

Titanium framelock flippers on bearings are abundant and have a lot of "toy" appeal.
Benchmade Axis Locks are also easy to manipulate and very smooth.

This exactly! ZT 562 flipper or any of my Benchmades that have an axis lock

Aside from the obvious Balisongs and automatics which are the kings of fidget knives there are a few other good ones. Balis and autos are illegal where I live.

Because of them being illigal I like to play with my Fred Perrin Tri-Folder. Karambits are fun to spin like an old single action revolver, but can be quite dangerous. Knives like the Benchmade SOCP dagger are fun to spin too. That is because they have a ring at the butt of the handle like a karambit.

I like to play with my Manix 2, my P'kal and my axis lock folders. When the knife is locked open I push my index finger hard against the spine of the knife; then I pull back the lock and the blade rockets shut. All in good fun.

Just for meditative , nervous energy release I love fooling with my flippers . Very addictive . Almost any smooth ,one hand flipper will do fine . Currently the BBK Dreadnaught .

For pure fondling pleasure : My Spyderco Vallotton .

Large Sebenza 21 and ZT 0808 are 2 favorites

My newest is the WE 604
Lots of blade and very good balance.
It feels like a small knife.

The Hinderer Half Track is my go to fiddle with knife. I have to be careful because I could drive my wife straight to a divorce attorney, just with the constant flipping.

Right now, for today atleast, it is the spyderco mantra. Has a flipper and a spydie hole.

Huh. I don't like my PM2 but love my Manix 2. Part of it is probably that I abhor S30V.

Anyway,

Of the few knives I own, I find myself molesting the Bailey model 2 the most. It is proof that properly executed PB washers can make for just as smooth a flipper as one with ball bearings.

Though my Kizer Ki 4423 is nearly as pleasurable to flip, it is too large for my tastes. I love the knife, and am loathe to sell it. However due to the size and weak clip it never gets pocket time.

Of the knives I've owned, I will add the ZT 0801 to very pleasurable to play with. As much fun as it was, the blade length, brick like size, concrete shoes esque weight, and nearly useless edge geometry put it on the block. I have many times considered an 0808, but my interests lie in slipjoints currently.

For the those unfamiliar with it, here is a picture of my Bailey.

Are those scales actual recycled circuit board or what ?

Yes the are circuit board scales, and they rock. It's Matt Bailey's geek edition of his model 2 flipper.

Thanks! It's a great knife. CPM-154 blade, Titanium frame.

Kershaw R.A.M.

I wish I'd bought one or two more of those before they were discontinued.

PM2 & BM 940 are 2 at the top for me.
I also love playing with knives that have more than one opening type.
I have 2 Spydies, Southard & Domino, that can be opened by flipping or with the hole. Too cool!

Opening via quillion pocket grab
Opening via wrist flick
Opening via thumbstud
